Dear All,
Has anyone changed the whole car conditioning system? How much does it cost? Thanks.
-
Is your car still under warranty?
If so, you can send it back to Tan Chong to get it replaced for free.

Tan Chong will likely replace only the specific faulty parts.
I don't think air con filter is covered under warranty as it is a wear and tear item.

My Car is more than 3 years. It happened last Sunday when no cold air came out from the aircon. Hoping that anyone has the same experience. Thanks for the sharing.
-
Check if it is in 'aircon' mode.
Or you need to top up aircon gas.
Worst case scenario is a spoilt aircon compressor.
Since your car is more than 3 yr old and warranty has expired, tehre's no need to bring it to Tan Chong.
Any workshop outside will do, and it will be cheaper too.

If I will you, I will drive the car to TCM and let them check thoroughly. Checking will be free. And you will be informed what is the problem. If the bill comes up high, you have the option to do it outside. If you lucky, they might replace it FOC for you.
-
I'd be very surprised if Tan Chong honours an expired warranty and replaces the aircon for free, unless the owner has signed up for any extended warranty scheme.

Speaking of which...is it worth to take up the extended warranty scheme? I throw away the form the other day....
-
If yours is high mileage with rough usage, then it may be worth to take it up.
Otherwise, I don't find it worthwhile.

Yep. Let's hope.

If you plan to use your Latio for few years, it good to sign up.

normally car come in are bare no accessories, all these like A/c, Hi Fi, Alarm etc are locally fitted..but honestly TCM aircon lose out even to Kia which is under Cycle and Carriage...

Hi best_ctzn, just wonder if TCM also provide free checking for car >3yrs (warrant expired)?

If you drive in to request checking for some problems, surely TCM will not turn you away. After checking, it will need to consult you for any items to change. If you do not agree as too ex, then just drive away. Best would be to present the problems during a service session, if you still doing servicing with them that is. But for free parts replacement, then it is up to the SA and your service record lah.
Actually this matter will be easy if car owners have bothered to cultivate some 'relationship' with particular SA.If you always request to use certain SA and become buddy buddy, you can just give him a call to check. There are not so many SA in any service centers, and easy to target those look more friendly ones.

My Latio air con system emits a hissing sounds when I turn it on.
Could there be a possible leakage?

Does the hissing sound stop after sometime? When the engine is cold and the air con is switched on, I hear a thud sound followed bya momentary hissing sound. But after sometime, the sound goes off.
-
Yes, my Latio has exactly the same symptoms as yours.
I wonder if this is normal or if there's gas leakage?

its just the compressor going on and air con gas released to make it cold.
eh, i thought you expert in engine oil and audio? never go read up on air con ?

Hv exp b4 in my previous 16.5 yrs Corolla car whereby hs changed almost the whole air-con system (of course not all at the same time lah), 1st. the air con compressor -> replaced in JB but 2nd hand part from Sg (cost me ard RM$800), 2ndly, changed all the piping due to some leakage (cost me another RM$300), 3rd, changed the fan coil unit (original in Malaysia, Tangkak, near Malacca) due to small leak at RM$350 (thanks to the boss of the workshop as he is very Kind and not simply over charge me with my Sg plate). By the way, noticed many friends of mine (local), do not bother to check if the air con is in good conditional, they just simply leave it to SA during service (also not sure if the air-con been checked during service). It's advisble to get the air con check at least one a yr.

Hi,
Is there any particular symptom that we can aware of ? Thanks.
-
I changed the compressor, air con coil and about everything related to the air con for S$1845 over the Deepavali weekend.
-
Did you change it at Tan Chong?
What car are you driving?

Hi JM
So expensive? Where did you change it?
In other word, you change the whole aircon system.
-
Hi,

for me, the air con can't really generate cool air during idling (eg waiting at traffic light). Understand that it's a symptom of
not enough gas which eventually will damaged yr compressor. Must send for check up and not to wait for any longer (or should stop using air con untill everything been rectified).
-
I changed it at TS Auto. I am drive a Latio 4AT.

Difficult to endure if stop using air-con inside the car.

Worst case scenario, you can turn it to high speed fan mode and adjust circulation air flow to allow to flow into cabin from outside.
This helps to disperse the built up heat on the cabin when waiting at traffic lights.
But once you drive, the air will flow in from the opened windows.

yup, but dun do this if there is a rubbish truck in front of your car. :bleh:
i ever experience air-con gas empty when coming back to singapore from jb at the causeway driving my previous car, can hear hissing sound constantly thus full blast the fan w/o aircon mode, but still sweat lah as jam mah :(

mine also loud hissing sound when first on but the sound comes from outside the compartment from the engine compartment but sound dies off after a couple of second...what i mean hissing sound if there is a gas leakage is from the condenser unit inside the driver compartment...this is normally on switching the a/c on..the hissing sound is due to the leakage gas rushing out against the metal fins in the condenser unit and also normally follow by a foul smell...
one other thing, I was told by those guys from car workshop that one of the causes of air con leakage is due to blockage of the drainage and this is actually cause by those car purifier...as the air con absorbs in the air and recycle...over time the purifiers particles will build up in the drainage system resulting in a choke drainage...

If ur car is cold after topping up gas but few days later not cold again.
I afraid you might have the same problem as me.
They found the AIR CON COOLING COIL ASSY to be faulty.
So far, I have changed the air-con cooling coil, the AIR COND COMPRESSOR,
- AIR COND CONDENSER ASSY and RENEW COMPRESSOR ASSY.
But still i got this problem.

Bro, don wan to b rude here, but seems like u going around saying if we don change filter, aircond compressor sure will spoil easily... know u selling ur filters here. No hard feeling hah.. cheers.
-
Yes, aircon filter change regularly. Can it be the belt that is causing this hissing sound.
-
My car got hissing sound when cold start in the morning .The hissing sound goes away when the engine is hot.Went to TC TP
they just tighten the belt and the problem goes away.

My understanding is that a dirty or clogged air con filter will make the air con compressor work harder, which will shorten its lifespan in the long run.
-
Try Mandarin Auto, it at tagore lane.... Cost $45/-. Ori Nissan parts.
-
Hi All,
Tink all of u shd just let TC check and rectify the problem, on watever noises u can hear fr the engine /aircond compartment, jus complain on ur next servicing, cos this is our RIGHT..
unless urs is over the warranty period of 3 yrs or 100K, and u don wan to spend more $$ at TC, then look for outside workshop..
