my 20 month old battery just went flat in the morning: can not unlock the door by remote and pressing the swith on the door handle, then unlock the door using physical key, again could not turn the ignition swith, thought steering wheel lock, tried to turn the steering and ignition swithch again, same. Finally asked taxi driver to help jump start, to my surprise, after we connected the cables, still can not turn the ignition switch.
No choice, called Nissan hot line to help, the technician came after half an hour, after replaced new battery,no problem to start my car at all, my steering wheel was not locked previously! total damage is $35 for labor, $53 for battery ( 50% discount in 2nd year).
Checked with the technician, whether it was normal for latio that can not turn the ignition switch when battery flat , and can not jump start, he said yes, but couldn't tell why.
Any brothers have similar experience before? remember the battery flat on my previous car, I still can turn the ignition switch, and can jump start with the help of another car. If our Latio really can not jump start when battery flat, definetely a big big disadvantage for the keyless system!
-
why not? jumpstarted mine half a year back when no batt :confused1:
-
bro, he's bullshitting you.
after you hook on the jumpstart cables, let it charge for a while, then crank.
if crank is stuck, jiggle the steering and crank together.
you might need to *try* to switch off all electricals to help lessen the load.
tested and proven bro, so many times. =]
-
my problem is after connected the cable, still can not turn the ignition switch, and tried jiggle the steering and crank together already.
Most important, the steering wheel was not locked at that time.
-
where's ur ikey? ur spare key not with u?
-
the ikey ( together with a small physical key inside ikey) was with me at that time, and was working fine all the way till now.
yes, spare key was not with me at that time.
-
did you take the physical key out from the ikey and insert it in the ignition switch before trying?

yes, still can not turn
-
Sorry if I sound to be rude. Did the taxi driver connect the batteries correctly ?
-
now thats odd. Might want to clarify with TC for this.

Hi, it could be that the jumper cable is faulty. It happen to me once, after changing another cable, it able to start.
-
Apparently diesel cars can't jumpstart petrol cars..thats what an AA guy told me when i tried to jumpstart a van with my car.

Huh....is there such theory? Is the electricity current that you need from the Van, not the fuel. AA guy smoke u ba. I know the vehvle that need to jump start your care need to be a healthy battery to achieve result of the jump start.
BTW, welcome to our Humble Forum.

the cable is confirmed no problem, actually when the cable was connected, I have used my multimeter to check the voltage on my battery terminal, 13.4V.

voltage shld be a problem leh..When it come to starting the car.. it is the current that is impt rite?
its just a battery, regardless of diesel or petrol car

I have used my petrol driven car to jump start a diesel Eurovan before, with success.
I am surprised that AA guy gave you such an answer.
He needs to attend a refresher course. ;D

haha... your total damage is considered quite cheap le... still got 50% discount for ur battery.

The battery that they change for u isit a maintainence free one or those that need to top up battery water one...
-

Do you mean connect the cables wrongly ? I doubt so coz of the color. I not sure what will happen if really connect wrongly.

Not maintainence free.

hi
why battery flat and cause such a jialat thing?
the battery wont be totally gone case right?
i will chg my battery when it hit 40000km or in the next servicing (now 34k already).
regards.

I am surprised that AA guy gave you such an answer.

I did try to jumpstart a van using my car...and it didn't work. When I asked why, the AA guy told me different voltage between petrol and diesel vehicle.
hmm....

Diesel vehicle not using 12V battery meh ? Interesting.
-
I can't recall the voltage in diesel vehicle's battery, but diesel vehicles use higher voltage than petrol vehicles as they run on high compression and consume more battery power.
Diesel vehicles also do not use any spark plugs,
They have glow plugs to start the engine.
-
Diesel vehicles (pick up, van, eurovan, taxi) also uses same voltage as car, 12V.
But heavy goods vehicles (truck, trailer, sbs/smrt buses...) using 24V.
-
ah ton of bullshit
12v for diesel or petrol cars is standard
big one use 24v
all are negative ground
it might be insufficient current or faulty cabling. in that case the taxi have to stop the engine first to ensure that the engine nto drawing current.. but usually cant be cos the alternator is still running to charge the battery
if you connect wrong polarity the battery would have already explode
did you check your internal resistance of your battery?
