Title: Latio Sparks plug
Post by: westresting on November 17, 2008, 06:58:27 PM
Hi fellow Latio owners

Has anyone change their spark plug before. Understand that Latio's spark plug is special
and cost about $24 or more each, but can last longer. And it is not easy to change it as there
is an cover over the engine.

Thanks

hihi,
nowadays workshop labour increases, but normally for sparkplug change, labour wun be too high. estimate $15 - $20 most.
If really want cheap one, i know 1 workshop that do only $10.
Hocks motor at eunos indurtrial.. Name: Ben. Jus 2 units beside Huat lee shop.
Those who drive getz last time should know him. V v v reasonable price.
if anyone happen to go there, just tell him roy friend. Last time driving a black Getz. He should know ah. if he still remember. ha

Yup. i still have 1 spare one for sale.
btw, i dun think our plug can last 80-100km.. thats way too long .. even iridium wun last tat long. I heard from a bro here saying our is using platimnum one. Should last 40k km. But is always better to change eariler as spark is essential to our car overall performance. layman term. car need fuel, air and spark to perform normally. when 1 is not working well.. car will lost of power.. FC getting worst.. etc. :)

Stock plug can last 100kM.
It seems that so far no one have change the stock plugs. My colleagues just changed his.
Tan Chong quotes him $125 before GST with his own plug (which he bought for approx $25.)
He went to JB Nissan AD and got it done at Rm $84.00.
According to him need to remove manifold and some stuff, and needs to re-tune with computer.

Mine at 49k Km but three years and 4mths old, still on stock plugs. Mechanics advised to change to cold plugs at 50k km. What are cold plugs??  :confused1:

Hot plugs have more thermal insulation and conduct heat away from the tip at a lower rate. This allows the plug to run hotter for a given engine load and this burns off carbon deposits. This is good for the fuel economy minded folks who hardly go beyond 10~15% engine load.

For the performance oriented crowd, it is a disaster. At high engine loads, the plug tip may overheat. Performance tuners will generally recommend "cold" plugs that conduct heat away from the spark gap more rapidly than "hot" plugs.

For comparison, was quoted by TC (tink in Apr 08) at $164 ($41 x 4) + $80 labour, not inclusive of 7% GST.

Not sure why some of u wan to change the original spark plugs if it can last till 100K, unless u all hv more $$ to spend,  ::) Btw, is it cover under our warranty till 100K for the original spark plugs? Anybody check b4 with TC?

mine was changed during my 100k servicing, and FOC/included in NPMP (u can calculate ur xtra costs here).

U oso use him? He actually used my car n kena fined and never bother to tell me, until the summon came. Called him at the same time to find out about car problem since not fully resolved, then asked him also about the summon then tell me he will settle.

From then, I didnt believe him, just paid the summon myself. And looking back, then realised that the so called replacement of part of $50 that day was to pay for the summon not for "fixing" the problem. Therefore till recently still have problem and decided to go to other workshop, although they couldnt find the fault as ECU was never lit. Eventually discovered that he didnt change the air filter which was so bad that I suspect that it will have an effect on the idling.

Called TC Ubi on the prices of the plugs. It cost $42.00/plug with about $40 of labout charge (to be confirmed)
That will be $208.00. The guy sating it will take about 45-60min. Hmm.. prices not far from Autosavers'

ooo, not really pro-tcm...

mine is oct2007 latio. jan2009 now my mileage is close to 38000km liao. 1 year car clock this mileage? geng or not?
so, i prefer to let tcm pao everything4me, ask them to chk this n that. i feel more comfortable to service by tcm (after i tried autosaver & outside workshop in msia).

I just did my 100,000km servicing at TCM BT. Changed the spark plugs and it cost $39.50/pc b4 GST. As I took the Package B, therefore no additional charge on labour...

They also change the both rear brake lamp electrical socket which was under a "silent' recall campaign....

Total service cost me $419.34

Yo guys, sorry for the late reply. Had a long long holiday in Malaysia (drove to Penang, Ipoh, etc)

To answer some questions:

1. Autosaver's price for the plugs (Model: FXE20HE11) is at $42.00 each. Labour charge is $60.00. Total damge: $228.00 (b4 GST)

2. I did not keep the old plugs. But a gimplse of it is that the threads (whatever you call it) looks worn and they confirmed that mine is really due for replacement (my second-hand car is at 98K milleage)

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

bro iagree, woah. at that milleage clocked, i see why the TCM package is for you :)

bro latioR, yap. more than 2 tanks liao. I detect no significant change to my FC in my last 2 locally-travelled tank. So now only comfort myself that I did it for safety's sake?

THis may not be related. But... i clocked 600km on a full tank of Esso 5000 petrol on the NS highway. (my personal best) That together with another half tank of Malaysian V Power is enough to take me to Penang  :yehyeh:

I just did my 100,000km servicing at TCM BT. Changed the spark plugs and it cost $39.50/pc b4 GST. As I took the Package B, therefore no additional charge on labour...

They also change the both rear brake lamp electrical socket which was under a "silent' recall campaign....

Total service cost me $419.34

Bro, u shd hv sign up the NPMP package straight away, prob can save u more, when u include another 2 Package A, 1 C and 1 D, + mayb some worn brake pads, belts, etc. :)

Yea, rem my rear brake lamp thing was also changed during my last service on my aircond, SA mentioned was a worldwide recall oso..

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
