Title: COE Bidding
Post by: iewoug on December 01, 2008, 09:27:57 PM
Hi guys,

Would like some advice here.

Went to this website: http://ocoe.lta.gov.sg/ to check out how much TCM is bidding for my COE (had booked a latio sport last Sunday) but found out that there has been no bids under my IC number at all.

So does that mean that TCM is not bidding for me this round?

yup ;) 47k nett witn sport rim and leather seat (option to cash in if dun wan)...the only down pt is cannot have my fav blue. u have all t colours to chose from?

truely agree that TCM will not go all out to secure our COE since our car price are relatively low.
think they will call us to top up once our lock-in bid had been over-bided.

If Tan Chong bids for you, your bid may be submitted as late as the last hour, that is after 3pm on Wednesday.

Mine was submitted at 3:30PM.

I too booked a Latio Sport Base two Saturdays back at 47k with Nismo kit, Leather & Rims, Car Mat, Windows Visor and Ultramax Solar Film.  This is after $500 NAC discount and $500 dealer discount off the Leather & Rims upgrade.  Even back then, the Pacific Blue and Pearl White was already out, settled for a Red in the end.  I'll also update here on the bidding price so that we can guage TC's tatics.

Clarence, thanks for the assurance. Was afraid that they might just skip bidding for me and count it as one round gone.

But what I'm curious about now is what happens if by the time they enter the bid the existing bid is already higher than what they are prepared to bid for? So they would just enter in a losing (lower) bid anyway?

Same case for me.

Tan Chong went in at 10 minutes before bidding closed and upped my bid by $3,000 to secure my COE.

But in my case, they wanted badly to clear YOM 2007 stocks.

Mine also secured at 1st bid.

Profit margin for Latio is high so Tan Chong has some margin to play with.

I bought mine , a latio sports premium also 2 saturday ago at $49200(no bodykits, $1000 off), full payment / no instalment (add $200), trade in my nissan sunny, $500 off, with the original seats and sports rim from latio, windows visor, solor firm. I got a silver one as it left only Red(last piece), black and grey & silver. I think silver is more ease to maintain.

Interesting price.  The quoted price for the sport premium was 51k and this already includes the loan discount.  Since you mentioned that you divested the bodykit which is worth 1k, got a further 1k off and another $500 off which equates to a total of 2.5k discount.  If indeed the loan discount is 1.5k by clarence, then your final price should have been $50,200.

Thanks, Bro.  I was referring to the price for the two weeks starting from the $2 COE date (and not the price after this week's COE bidding round).  The reason for asking is that some bros here mentioned about quite a big drop.  However, when I called my previous SE last week, the price she told me was higher.  She quoted $56K for sedan premium.  But some bros mentioned getting the sedan 4AT for below $50K.  Difference for 4AT and premium should be about $3K, right? Cheers!

Now my turn, Latio 4AT Sport Base, with sport rim, leather seats, solar film and without nismo kit, colour reddish gold.. Booked 2 weeks ago, after all the discounts, price is close to $47K.

Already check TCM bidded yesterday for my COE at 6+ pm with reserve bid $3K +.
Title: Re: COE Bidding
Post by: iewoug on December 03, 2008, 08:55:06 AM
Bro, why the price you were quoted is higher are due to two reasons:
1. overwhelming demand (simple economics)
2. depletion of ex-stock (indent stock costs are higher due to Yen appreciation)

I doubt Cat A COE will remain so low at $3K this time round, but Tan Chong is being socially responsible in not agressively bidding a high price which will push COE prices sky high.

They will likely revise the $3K bid after the key players, Toyota and Honda (who control the COE prices) have placed their bids.

Borneo Motor usually locks in their bids at the last hour. Being the market leader, how much they bid usually determines the final COE price

COE price is already $4,590 now, 1 1/2 hr before bidding closes, which is not surprising considering the excessive no. of bookings over the last 2 weekends.

The bids are coming in very aggressively now, with about 20 bids coming in continuously every minute.

In the past bids, COE price started moving beyond $1 only during the last 1/2 hour.

From my SE, only those booked at higher price; after price increase and have ex stock got their coe. Ppl like me booked at low dicounted price didnt get it. lol. Thats why they bid so early cos not going to revise as every revision will cost them a small minimal fee. :D :D

Those who did not get your COE this time, don't worry, you still have 5 more bids to go.

I don't see why you cannot secure your COE by end February 2009.

Yalor if after 6 bids dont get, then I'll change SE and rebook.  :bleh:

anyway..come to think of it...if need top up..then wad's the point of getting a low price since eventually we will need to top up for COE due to dealer not having enuff margin cos of the low price?

Even if your COE is secured in the next bidding ending 17 Dec, you will still get your car before New Year, as Tan Chong will want to register as many cars as possible before year end to boost their numbers.

HTFreak, eh i not sure about price increase of 1k.. eh the rebate they give me is set at S$4.5k

4.5k rebate means it is the increased price already.  Most of us who booked early had our rebate set at 3k nia.

Yup tat's might be true, however if they dont get it for those who booked the ex stock. Then soon we'll see low prices again to attract ppl to book and lower prices and then asking them to top up later on/  :confused1:

No, I'm referring to the COE rebate level.  For example yours is set at 4500 which means if the COE dropped below this amount, TC will give you a refund.  For those folks that got the $2 COE, their rebate level was set at only at 6k which meant that most of them got $5998 back.  TC probably earned big that round.

true that tan chong earned big that round...

but in all fairness there are also times where they had to bid over and above their budgetted amount to secure COE for the bookings...

i guess in business that's the way it is...you gain some you lose some..

These Tan Chong SE are all liars.

When I was looking at pre facelift YOM 2007 Latio, I was told that once YOM2007 stocks are sold out, new facelift Latio would cost at least $10K more.

Actually, i really sympathize with u and can understand why you are so upset. But why did u go back to them and buy a second car from them??

I've realised buying a car in Singapore is different from buying a car in other countries. Here, car prices are like the stock market coz it fluctuates up and down after every COE bidding... Almost impossible to buy at lowest price. If anyone can predict the prices, we dun need to work for a living liao.  ;D

So just LL, lor... Buy a car when u really need it and you think the price is acceptable. As they say, willing buyer, willing seller... Good luck!

Hi tchekchuan, i bought on 29 Nov 08, Sat in the evening around 5pm.. eh I managed to get Pearl White is because that car is not listed in the system. Correction, those Tan Chong SE you met are all liars.

It seems that majority of them are 'liars' then.

2 of my colleagues were also keen in Latio at that time. We called  several SEs from the different branches to check and all said the same  thing, that Facelift Latio will cost at least $10,000 more than pre facelift.

But then I suppose that was the direction Tan Chong Management gave them. So actually can't blame the SEs. And as sales people, they would be desperate to hit their quota, so they would go all out to close as many deals as they could.

I heard that there is change of management inside Tan Chong and it's a little messy inside there.

Strange, wouldn't it be better if you took the minimum loan amount and period, i.e. 1 year loan on $30000?  1.99% is only $597 .

i.e. in total you would have paid $48097, inlcuding interest.

I believe its a common practice among buyers to take min. loan and min.repayment period to enjoy all the discount. At the end of the day, u are stil paying less in total than when u are paying full.

With the going rate for the premium at 51k with the loan discount, I still don't understand how you ended up with 49.2k.

No loan              = 51 + 1.5k = 52.5k
Less 1k body kit  = 51.5k
Less $500 NAC    = 51k
Add $200           = 51.2k

Hence, there is an unaccounted 2k amount somewhere..

bro, calculation abit off...$30K at 1.99% for 1 yr would be $2550/mth.
total paid would be $30597.
Car without loan is $49200
with loan minus $1.5K
if u get inhouse insurance minus $500
it would be $47200-$30000= $17200 (downpayment)
$30597 + 17200 = $47797

u would have paid $47797 with loans.

I believe you probably paid $65,000 for your Sunny in Aug 2004.

You lost $37,000 for 52 months usage which works out to $8,500 a year in depreciation.

With your OMV at $12,000, you stand to depreciate only $310 a month or $3,700 a year for the remaining lifespan of your Sunny.

Isn't it more worth it to continue using your Sunny?

it is of course the most sensible thing to drive ur car for 10yrs.
but it is always the temptation of having a newer, bigger & latest car that overun our senses. :devil2:

i was told by my se that i shld b collecting my car in 3 jan.
think TCM will tried to register all the cars that got their COE (17 Dec) before yr end.
this will boast their sales number for yr 08 . ;)

Hi! i think it's normal for TCM to take abt 10-14 days to deliver your car after getting yr COE. i had to wait abt 2 weeks when i kanna my COE in early July. Enjoy yr new ride!

Same situation with me.  Asked my dealer over the weekend on the status and was told that they have not been informed by TC when the car will be ready yet.  This is the last time I will buy a car from authorised dealers instead of going direct.

It's the principle that I'm pissed at.  They were the ones insisting that the car has to be registered by year end when I first requested for an early Jan date.  Now they are flip flopping on their words instead after initially rushing to collect the balance payment.  Now have to cancel the various workshop appts that I have made to install the ICE and other improvement works.
