Will battery just die all of a sudden without any prior warning like car difficult to start in the morning. etc? I do have a voltmeter in the car. As long as the car is started and it falls below 13V means the batt is weak.

My friend has a voltmeter in his car.

One fine day, after parking his car for an hour to go for dinner, his car could not start.

It was a failed battery. The volt meter showed a normal reading despite the battery being weak.

After this incident, he removed his volt meter as it gave him a false sense of security.

i encountered the same problem also. parked for 20 min for dinner, came back , engine couldnt start. managed to get help from another driver to jump start. thought everything fine, 2 days later when i rushing for my marathon run the car couldnt start again. after the run get my friend to jump start, the battery flat again when i stopped engine 15min for lunch. in the end call TCM mobile to change the spoilt battery. damaged $110. was told the battery can last about 400k km only.

I find conventional batteries that require top up of battery water more hardy & lasting.

Mine lasted 3 years in my previous ride.

Huh..u were charged?? I just sent in my car 2 days ago to check out the batt.. cos i need to jump start 2 days in a row.. they did the "hand-held" test and told me my batt health is at 100%.. and charging rate is at 97%.. so it should be ok.. but i told them to do a thorough check.. cos it is impossible to have to jump start the car 2 days in a row.. left my car there for abt 4 hrs... when i got my car back.. they told me the bill is $110.. i told them to check again... cos i was told my batt is in good health.. y change it without my consent? they told me the previous batch of batts has lotssssss of problems.. and they are aware of it.. so.. in short.. i got a free new batt :) BTW.. life span of that batt is abt 1 1/2yr i think.. and i changed it at ubi.. :yehyeh:

That was very generous of Tan Chong to give you a free battery on the 2nd yr of your warranty. The usual practise is to charge you 50% of the battery price in the 2nd yr.

For older cars, a faulty battery could indicate a faulty alternator.
