Since we are on the topic of "First Servicing", a gentle reminder to those sending their cars to Tan Chong for their first servicing, that it is better to send on a weekday, as it takes no more than 2 hours.
When I sent mine for its first servicing on a Saturday, it took a whole day.
I subsequently sent mine for its 2nd servicing for 5,000km on a weekday, and the job was completed in 1 1/2 hours.
-
Yup, i can confirm this. i sent in on weekday and it only took 2hrs. Enough time to drink kopi and read newspapers in the lounge.

iagree, yours is 40k major servicing, more things to change, tyre rotation and more things (or gal) to see. So it take longer time than the very first servicing.
Btw, just collect my car from TPY branch for 50k servicing. also 4 hour+.

yap i use the $20 to go for servicing on wednesday as mine is OPC car to jurong service centre, it take around 2 hrs to complete with a car wash.
But i am wondering is it ok for us to sent in our car before they open can collect it after they close? their working time is from 8 to 5. but mine is an OPC car.

If I'm not wrong, it is possible. I say the key drop service provided at Ubi's branch. I think it is for all workshops of TCM. They have a log book where you are suppose to record your time in and a box for you to drop your ikey after filling in some form. I saw a 6.45am entry yest.
I sent my car for 1k service on Wed at 2.40pm. The SE called my number at 3.15pm!! I was rather pissed. As I need to go off at 5pm. So I asked if they can finish servicing by then. The SE told me no, not even 5.15pm cos there r still few cars upstairs in queue. So even if its 1k servicing, it depends on the number of cars there.
But I was told I can leave and come back later at whatever time to collect the car. And I did as I return ard 8.45pm. Just go to the guardroom and get the key from the guard in exchange for your temp invoice, walk down to the carpark and there you have, your serviced car.

I normally sent my car for servicing on Sat. at BT, will reach before 7 am, drink coffee nearby and ard 7.45 - 8 they start collecting the car. 3 pm can come and collect the car.

The problem when you collect your car at night is that it is difficult to detect any fresh scratches or dents inflicted on your car during the servicing.

yah i agree... but wat to do.. LL... i find the service in Ubi dropping.. although they have those lounge with food, but to me i cant be bothered with these good-to-haves... i just want my car to be serviced well.

I sent my car to Toa Payoh on Boxing day as Ubi was full. Did the online booking weeks back, send in the car at 8am, received the car at 11+ am. When I reached there, there were already 12 cars ahead of me. An engineer took my ikey and started performing battery checks on the spot. Set down in the "lounge" for about 20 mins, got contacted by the engineer who gave a quick briefing on what's to be done for the 1K servicing, asked if there's any other concerns, took my receipt and left. Got sms at around 11am and happily pickup my car. That's my experience on the 1st servicing.

very terrible... i'm like going for a re-service... find that the standards really dropped since i last service my Sunny with TCM. very poor workmanship. at this kind of economy, tcm should buck up and do their job well, else pple will run to other workshops.
After the first 1k service, i got so many problems...
1) the weird sound like something hitting the underchasis (metal part) every time i go over the hump
2) thanks to the rain today, when i use my wipers, can see them vibrate.. the movement is not smooth. i dun remember experiencing this before the servicing.
3) dun noe what else will follow...
All the more disgusting is that yesterday when i was cleaning my car, I discovered one grit of SAND in the front windscreen, trapped between the glass and the solar film. Apparently ultramax or TCM did not do a good job. There is a smaller air bubble around the same area. This is in addition to other bubbles at corners of the window panes. Really, the workmanship is so poor. I thought was a stain and din bother during the first servicing...
So will go complain all these the next time i go down to rectify the sound problem.. and yes, also make them check my steering coupling... What I was pissed is that they still dare to schedule me when i called to complain their lousy job done, and gave me a morning slot. Feel like giving the tel operator a tight slap. U tink i no need to work issit. U did a bad job and u expect me to waste them waiting for the slot so that I can drive down to rectify the prob. And I will waste more time at the workshop... What happens if due to your lousy servicing i got into accident. is TCM going to be liable?
i'm very disgusted by the aftersales service offered so far by TCM workshop. Pretty much want to write in to complain. I'll be kicking a big fuss for that grit of sand :nonod:
-
sorry to heard abt your "misfortunes". the sand issue should be held responsible by ultramax since they are the contractor who does it. as for the knocking sound when going over hump, i do not think it's steering coupling problem. it could be suspension or even loose item in boot? as far as i know, steering coupling sound happens when turning of steering, not over hump.
-
yes, get the vendor to redo your solar film and TCM to check the car. Best to try other branch or service enginner.
-
I went to Ubi and TPY when i was driving my Sunny. Found Ubi better than TPY at that time. Somehow i find tpy's service not thorough... just some gut feeling.
but now even ubi also sucks... so guess got to try bukit timah... sian

Not sure if mine is the steering coupling but tok tok sound comes intermittently during turning. Is AS able to perform replacement of the steering coupling? Mine is Aug 2005 so no more warranty.
Thanks!

i mentioned this rattling sound (when full turning) to TCM when I did my 20k servicing. they did some tightening of the front-D. seems better for now.

Dear all,
I have need some advice on servicing, Tot i can borrow this thread (sorry to thread starter) and no need to start a new one to jam up the server space.
The "next servicing" slip that is pasted by TCM workshop on our windscreen says next servicing is 48000km or 14/01/2009, whichever come first. The date has reached but my mileage is only at 42000km+. I thought of driving a little longer before sending in for servicing.
Will TCM void my warranty in this case?
Thanks in advance.

Hello Midnight,
No worry, as I am a low mileage user, I passed over 3 months stated as my mileage still yet to reached.
-
i did mine in jurong.
got a call from the service centre asking me if every thing is ok after the servicing. Not sure can this consider a plus point? while you guys does at other service centre do they call u after a few days?
Another issue, it seem that my pick up is slower then before the 1k servicing according them it is because they had change the engine oil and has not kick it. is this true? or because i been using shell 95 for two tank as i used to pump caltex for my first tank.

Hi Jazz, thanks for the advice. Probably take me another 3 to 4 months to reach 48000km :bleh:
-
date is not an issue, best is to follow the mileage.
