I think same as hand brake....if you consistently push it all the way down....the foot brake will become loose over time just like hand brake and u realised u need to push it all the way down more.....but when servicing...they should adjust it for you and it will be fine.....i used to pull the hand brake of my previous all the way up....and then over time...i find tat it is not tat good.........

that is due to the wearing down of the brake pads

I think we're talking about the parking brake. It won't wear out unless you drive off with it~!  ;D

i meant that the parking brake activates the brake pads to "hold" the car in a parking position

so as the brake pads wear out under normal braking, the travel distance required to fully engage the parking mechanism is increased due to the bigger clearance of the pads to the disc/drum

Err, isn't the parking brake a seperate brake pad? On most cars its a smaller pad, activated by wire tension instead of fluids. Not too sure on Latio, you may be right!

Parking brakes are normally on the rear wheel. It should be usingthe same brake pads as the normal brakes.

On level ground, just one click will do, if slope, 2 clicks. SO far, 2 clicks are sufficient for me before i put the gear to 'P'.

2 clicks if okay until you start throwing in suitcases and stuff and the car rolls down the slope with the weight. Heheh never happened before, just saying, but why not push down more? I use around 4 clicks on slopes. Better to be safe then sorry!  :bleh:

I would think it works like the handbrake. u pull it too hard often, it will become loose. Then u will find that it does not hold anymore when u really need it on a real steep slope! So usually i just depress about enough. It really steep slope, i think maybe 3 clicks.

I happened to have the Nissan service manual for Versa(US version of Latio), and their handbrake is wire activated. So I would imagine its the wire becoming loose after a long time. Should be able to ask the mechanic to tighten for you when servicing.
