Title: Car Battery Die On Me
Post by: Midnight on March 20, 2009, 09:11:32 PM
Dear all,

Just now i was at TCM to change my steering coupling and power window motor. At collection time, i realise that my car cannot start. The service advisor use a battery tester to test my battery and print out the result slip which shows "battery fully charge" and "Battery is bad and to be replaced".

He quoted me $105 for some Japan battery call "JB... " dunno what. It is not maintenance free. Like to seek some advice here if it is better for me to go out to replace the battery with more competitive pricing. I am staying in the west, where can i go?

TCM technician jumpstart the car for me and i drove home. The car now siting in carpark, after i OFF engine, it cannot start already.

Thanks!

I am actually into the 3rd year of warranty. If TCM gave me 25% discount, i suppose will be ok right? $70 plus only.

Anyway does Edward change for me as well? :-p

Dear all,
I have replaced the battery at TCM, took the wet cell and enjoy 25% discount so paid about $84 for it.

As the battery is failing, warning lights will start to come on intermittently and flickering. When i do full lock during parking or U turn, the steering will "bounce back" once u full lock and the "PS" warning light comes on. Change out to battery and solved everything.

I guess once my warranty is over and no more discount, it is not worth replacing the battery at TCM already, cos it is $105 for wet cell and $180 for a MF battery!

Cheers!

Not sure about that, why don't you call them up and ask them, I changed mine battery about last month, there didn't want to go back to TCM because TCM MF battery is still more ex after 25% off. Most of the MF batteries are about that price in the market. Amaron comes with 1 year warranty.

I have surfed and read a few sites, some said MF battery last longer, some said vice versa. TCM wet cell life span, some said last only 8 mths, some says a year plus.. i think really heng suay one... i also dunno, but last only 8 months good, still under warranty, then get TCM to replace one for free and u get a new battery FOC!

TCM is using FB (Furukawa Battery) for its wet cell...

Frankly no one knows when a battery can fail. A lot of ppl say Amarron battery good, can last about 2 years, but my previous one died on me just 1 year 2 months. But I got the car second hand so i didnt know how the previous owner use the car which may affect the battery lifespan.

Keep yr finger cross lo...

that time I asked the Technician, he told me the battery could last about 2 years or 40k km(average usage is about 20k per year). my battery died about 1.5yrs but mileage is over 40k...
there is no sign when the battery is going death... it just die suddenly...

During servicing, complain you need to crank longer than usual and suspect battery weak. They will use the electronic tester to test for u. If result is good, tell them u cannot afford to have the car stalled outside, will incurred extra cost to engage Nissan breakdown service also. Think they will change for u if u bang table a bit. 1.5 years old, i dun think the electronic tester will show the condition is still good.

I think u meant Armaron brand right? Made in India. I was quite skeptical about this brand initially due to the country of manufacture but the general lots have gave positive feedback about this brand. Still luck is involved as to whether you buy a battery that can last you 2 cycles of insurance payment.
