Title: Lets Talk about petrol grade!!
Post by: idiotboi89 on March 23, 2009, 10:55:40 PM
I have been wondering how does 92 95 98 and 98 Zhnged makes a difference in terms of consumption, response, and power.

After consulting sgcarmart ( Choosing the right petrol grade ) and auto.howstuffworks, i was wondering that since the difference of these grades is that the rate of burn when ignited during the compression burn cycle of the piston.

Could it be due to this that 92 could have more power but rise in FC?

Does airflow ratio affect the required octane rating?

* off topic *

i read up abit more just to find out my gas pedal is the one that controls the air intake .. * stunned *  Source here!http://auto.howstuffworks.com/fuel-injection2.htm (http://auto.howstuffworks.com/fuel-injection2.htm)

Can anyone enlighten me on this? I personally think its quite interesting

One thing I'm sure of, and I've seen numerous sources on this, is that petrol grade does not affect power at all. Its one of the biggest misconception. The reason people believe it does is probably because of premium additives found in Caltex Techron, Shell V-Power and some other petrol, I'm not too sure which.

Latio can take 92 ron no problem, so unless higher grade petrol contains additives, they are not worth the price increase at all.

Oh btw the link you gave is nice! I didn't know the gas pedal controls air intake too! ;D Time to read.

My personal opinion is that btw 95 and 98 not much different. I pump Shell V power also same. But if using grade 92, i can feel slight drop in power during pick up and engine feel rougher. Other than that, not much diff.....

But of coz it diff from car to car....

Coming from the angle of consumption, i think the right foot more impt... the petrol grade effect is quite negligible...

Yup its more likely your biasedness towards low grade fuel if there's any difference at all! I've tried 92 and 95 and I don't feel any difference hehe. Maybe I need to more attentive.  :confused1:

hmm.. does anyone know.. more air = higher octane fuel better. .or lesser... still dont really understand rate of burn
