Now ODO at 35000++km, when should I change my brake pads and service my drum brakes? Hope fellow owners can help me.

No lar bro, when you find ur braking power not as efficient as last time, and when u hear screeching noises thats when the brake pad wan to liao already.
Look for Joseph( 91504533) to change ur brake pads. I recently tried to do a group buy for Brake pads but it was not successful.
His prices are reaonable! changed 2 brake pads with him for my both cars already. (:

recently just went to change my rotor to cross drill slotted type and the mechanic told me that i still have abt 40% of the stock pad left n ask me dun waste use till amost finish then change.. btw my ride travel over 70k liao still on stock pad....

70k! I changed mine at 30k. Dunno if the mechanic bluff me anot.

Mine is at 103K km and still using the stock brake pads...came down Genting twice as well....still good.....but likely this Jun before going up Genting again will change....

normally, there is a guideline about roughly after how km you should change pads, but its referring to the stock pads. From my 4 yrs of driving the latio, the stock pads are very lasting, but they don't really grip as well as the other pads ive changed b4. I'm now on my fifth set of brake pads.
1 way of verifying is to do a physical check, remove the wheel and you probably can see the thickness of the pad left.
Currently, i am using this brand called Asuki, made in japan. It cost $65 with installation, and i quite like it. Its quiet, and not dusty, and the grip is gradual. Admittedly, the initial bite of the other pads like Bendix and the high temp ones i used was better, but those cost more for sure. Right now, i am pretty satisfied with this Asuki brake pads, and the funny thing about this pad is, it gives my rotors a bloody chrome finish!! I don't know why. Damn shiny, macham apply brasso or autosol then polish like that.

No I don't think I changed to Asuki pad.
This week I just did servicing at one of our popular workshops and the mechanic changed my front brake pads for $135. When I asked him what brand it was, he told me 'it's the same brand used by Tanchong'. I should have done some homework and bought my own consumables before going to the workshop..

I paid 135 for OEM brake pads too. Kinda lousy, it makes screeching slow when I'm moving slowing and apply brakes.

Today is only my 2nd day on the new pads, so far it has done its job with no complaints.

No I didn't rotate tyres, coz I just changed to Hankook K415 last week.

I went to hankook before and nope, they dun do wheel alignment. Some shop does that.
I am on 61K, dunno brakepad need to change or not.
$65 for brakepad is consider affordable. heh.... :thumbsup:

Standard practice to do wheel alignment when rotate tires? Definitely not a standard practice. Because if it was, every tire shop would have alignment machines loh

yes, not all workshop have the machine but if have then you can ask for a special price for the wheel alignment. I did that when I change my tyre.

Just got back from Malacca and I felt that the stock brakes aren't working as good as it should be. It was a fast run therefore had to brake a lot till the whole steering wheel was vibrating whenever I brake.
Going fast without good brake system is madness.
Any brother/sister did any steel braided brake hose or changed to full four pcs disc brakes?

i have change my brake hose to steel braided hose and breaking is better...

I vividly know that I didn't push the brakes fully but they were vibrating already. Either its too hot or something is wrong. One guy told me is high speed balancing.
Anyway where to do steel braided hose and the damage? Want to know the market rate for such things.

done my braided hose(bit sport brand) at chip soon at tampines and damage is $280+7%.. Look for daniel. can change rotor to cross drill slotted type at $240+7%

change brake pads also need to do wheel alignment.
for me it is a must when I change new tyre or if there is problem. I will do brake pad change during regular servicing with normal tyre rotation.

The price is include installation if u change ur asuki brake pads from aoto.... they also got do servicing....

I found that the boss of Aoto (Billy) is very friendly & offers many help and he tries to answer all ur queries. His mechs is quite familiar with nissan cars like maintenance, performance upgrade and if u need any parts or accs for ur latio he will order for u.
Went to his workshop afew times, clean nice & has a customer waitin lounge too.

I got them from Aoto
After changin to HEL hoses, can feel that the brake pedal does not have the spongy feels anymore esp when brakin hard at fast speed. As this is a budget & cost-effective way of improvin the brake system, but if i hv the extra dough i would change the rotors and callipers too. . . :P

But if you wanted to change rotors and callipers I think its more worth to buy a complete set cause change 1 by 1 is not really cost effective? By the way, for the brake fluid, whats dot5.1 and dot4 do you know? whats the diff? Also does the shop change all of the brake fluid or top up only? Also is this SS brake hose meant for latio model or customize to fit? Sorry for being so loh soh... :unsure:

Ya correct i've been usin HEL for most of the vehicles i used to owned even for my motorbikes... Its worth the money well spent as u can feel the difference & result will prove to u dat those ah chee pah lia hoses dat cost over $200++ is not dat great & cheap after all. . .

I'm using the bit spot hose for my ride.. they can use back the original connectors so dun need those able tie to tie here and there..

Do they (AOTO) have direct bot on brake disc (Rotor) for replacement?? how is the max size can a stock caliper can hold?
Interested in upsize my Rotor... no sure where to get it done....

might as well you buy a subaru 4p front and modify in. a 4p will cost you ~ $500, modify and wack in, also almost same cost as you change rotors and calipers... and its 4P!

hmm i was thinking bout this too.. but upsize rotor, calipers nv change got effect?.. our rotor looks tiny on 17" rubber.
