There are quite a few threads about the sparkbridge installation here and there in this forum. I was probably one of the last guys with the OPC latio. After my installation on sunday, I would like to put up some of my comments, but don't know which one and just this post comes in handy to pen my thoughts.

The immediate feeling I experience, psychological or true result, I don't know :
1. Engine feels quieter. Need to further verify as the route to and fro to Toh Guan Centre was different, though exactly opposite direction. Travelling speed - 100 - 110 km/hr (on my way), 90 - 100 km/hr (back home).

2. Could feel more responsive. Before the installation, it is natural to reduce the speed when approaching a 90 deg bend, and could feel loss of power when trying to regain the speed by pressing the pedal. After installation, the response time is faster, meaning the time taken to regain the speed is quicker, loss of power is lesser.

Thanks Isaac for the good work. I would definitely like to deal with you again if opportunity arises.

I am the guy with the red OPC on sunday. Nice to have talked to foofam77 and the guy with the black latio

Here's my report:
Speed gauge swing from 20 - 40Km/h is much faster on flat roads
Engaging slopes:
- bartley road KPE exit going up the Kaki Bukit Viaduct is much smoother now
- up slope on the ECP Benjamin Sheares Bridge (towards Changi Airport) is slightly better in that I need not rev up past 2500rpm to hit 50km/h

I used to get the occasional jerk from stop to go where the meter hits 2500rpm and goes down to 1500rpm. Haven't seen that for awhile since Sunday.

Thanks vypez for highlighting the corrosion on the batt - will take this up with TC on my 10k servicing. Overall, a good and simple mod!

Did the installation by bro vypez on 6 Jul session, I guess I was the third car? Two other white latio sedans were there before me.

Anyway, felt 2 things so far, speed increases faster like galatica mentioned. And when I floor the accelerator, can feel the speed kick in slightly faster.

Hi Guys,

I believe most of those who signed up for sparkbridge have gotten it done, felt the results(definately not all in a state of mind) and are probably satisfied with it(hopefully).

I am gunning to end this installation with about 9 pending cases(contacted me, but no time to come install according to my timings), so this is basically the last session.. =]

For all that have installed, i hope you are happy with it, and do look for me if there are any issues, I will gladly rectify it for you if possible.

Cheers guys.

Isaac

Did the SB installation by bro vypez  today.
on the way back from Toh Guan centre  to Eunos , can felt my car is more responsive  can feel the speed kick in . will monitor again
Thanks for the SB DIY and the change of air filter for me.
oso thanks for the promoting the ultraman EO 5w40 and the SP 4 doors package

Conclusion : A cheap and must have mod for latio owners
cheers

Done the SB by bro vypez on last Sunday.

Frankly speaking, i could not find the difference after driving for few days. When driving upslope,i still need to rev until it down 1 gear and climb the slope on average 2300rpm with speed 60km/h.I did testing by slowly pressing down accelerator while cruising and it is as usual, down gear and speed went up.(That means the responsiveness is not improved)
The only improvement i notice is the engine noise is abit softer.

Bro vypez, could it be the grounding cable not functioning?

errrmmm i don't know if its phycological or not,..but when i step on accelerator,.. the car responsiveness is slightly increased,...
but bottomline i think we must not expect a big improvement over a single mod,... but the $30 is well spent in my opinion,...
engine bay is a tad more colourful :bleh: kekekeke and most importantly met a new friend whom I can talk to with regards to ICE mods  :devil2:

ok..
the setup is very simple..

he will just unscrew 2 bolt, den put 2 grounding cable to the bolt, den another end will be connected to your negative point of your batery.

end of day, u will get better response when your leg step on the throttle. (impressive for cvt)

nothing illegal, nothing complicated. 10 mins job and off u go.

I just got my sparkbridge done to my ride by Isaac (did I get the name right?) 2 evenings ago. Dude, thanks for coming all the way to my place, really appreciate it!  I can finally report my experience after more substantial driving without my missus in my car. Hope that answer your question about my driving style when I told you "it depends". :devil2:

First of all, having driven both the 1st generation Lation sedan CVT (my in-law's previous car) as well as the most recent FL Latio Sport CVT (my ride), I will claim that Nissan tweaked and improve the responsiveness of the CVT box, with the 'rubber band' effect more obvious in the older ride, so their new marketing term of Extronix-blah-blah-blah is probably not BS. The FL Latio CVT does feel somewhat more 'powerful' and less laggy than the very 1st model in stock form.

Previously, I am already quite happy with the stock performance of the Latio CVT, preferring it to the 4AT as it is smoother and accelerate faster at high RPMs but the 'rubber band' or gear slipping effect sometimes set in during 1) very hot days when I accelerate from zero, 2) when I tap on brakes while going up slope and try to accelerate again, 3) when I try to overtake cars while the engine is <2000RPM, especially when upslope. After the sparkbridge installation, I agree with Issac, it doesn't exactly make the car accelerate much faster for say, 0-100km/h but basically make the acceleration more 'linear', eliminating the 'rubber band' effect for the above mentioned scenarios.

All in all, this is a good and cheap upgrade to make your accelerator pad more feel more responsive. Highly recommended.

Yes it will make your car eat more fuel because after this mod, you will start to develop a lead foot, having fun zipping your ride around. :D

How much is the filter? Is it so called maintaineance free? I read somewhere that if we install such filters and if our ride is on TCM's NPMP, we can get some kind of a cash rebate, is that true? Thanks.

Upz for bro Isaac for installing SB n Simota filter
last night over at my place. Highly recommended for
those who have yet to do on their beloved ride.
Ride feels more responsive n furthermore it's dirt cheap.

It doesn't make the ride goes faster but for people who like
to drive leisurely like me, sure can feel the sluggishness when
moving off from a complete stop, all GONE!  :yehyeh:

Hi Issac,

Thanks for coming to my place to install!

Tested it this morning, the car did not feel as sluggish as it used to be, so I think it works. Still, I will need to drive more to have more conclusive outcome.

BTW, I noticed that my engine's idling has dropped to 500rpm (while in Drive mode), and can feel the vibration of the engine. (the RPM used to be around 700).

Will have more evaluation about the above wield behavior.

Title: Re: SPARK BRIDGE installation CONTINUES....... !!
Post by: robtan99 on September 29, 2009, 05:54:44 PM

I think when i change the battery that time, they never even touch all my connections. (amplifier, woofer, spark plug, pivot etc).  What i can see they simply take up the top part and link to the new battery.

hey isaac

if i want to change my car battery, would the workshop(be it TCM or others) help to disconnect my spark-bridge and ez-tab connections and then, fix them back after installing the new battery?

thanks

can do all 4 points, but difference is very little and it makes it MUCH harder.
wires are just basic 10awg wires, high temp of course, not fire retarded or IP rated though.

it is pretty hot, however it won't melt or corrode away. no worries on that.

I am unsatisfied with the installation and you promised to check out my soundproofing for me last week.
Please return my calls, I stay in Bishan and you know who I am.
