Went for 40k servicing today at Autosavers.
Had to pay another $135 for rear brakes and $75 for fan belt in addition to the $260 package. Didn't bring my oil, so used their Rev-1 5w30.
After the servicing, car felt more powerful, but it rumbles and vibrate alot at 20-30km/h, whether its in neutral or D. Very strange, probably because of tyre rotation?
Also I ran over some object on expressway last week, dunno what, but now my car got this scratching sound when moving. Like leather or metal rubbing against another. Like eek eek eek sound, and it gets faster when i drive faster. Very irritating, yet I dunno what it's from. Could be damage to the underchassis?

$75 for the new belt, no labour charge meh? i was charged $25 for labour wor...
-
$75 already inclusive of labour charge. Last time i change only $45 during service. They waive off the $30 labour charge.

hmm, i have to double check on my receipt again....

Mine still got labour charge. =( How to waive?

Anw, Sry to sidetrack bros... Did u guys experience squeaking sound from your belt after u changed it at Au*oS*v*r?
I found their workmanship @ Def* Lane Branch to be quite terrible, even though the mechanic was very friendly. Quite shocked to see them tightening my new belt by gut-feel. Shouldn't they use a torque-wrench to get the correct tension on the belt? :scared:
I was damn pissed with that and ended up going back to TCM to get them adjust to the correct tension to stop the squeaking. TCM did it for free as my car went in to settle some other wty issues like the knocking sound from the engine @ low rpm acceleration (1.8krpm to 2.0krpm)
Pls correct me on the torque-wrench if it's not the correct way to tighten a belt?
-
Torque Wrench is Correct bro..but those experiance mechanic use thier Gut feelings mayb quite accurate too, by the way this fan belt thingy is the same as aircon belt rite? if yes..then after installing a new belt the mechanic will only tighten juz a little. then after a week must come back to tighten again for the last time..
-
correct tension in the belt is not achieved by using torque wrench
tension in belt is checked by "measuring" the deflection of belt
torque wrenches are used to ensure that bolts are tightened to a specified torque so as not to damage the threads (in the case of over-tightening the bolts)
-
Correct explanation!
-
Oic!! Thanks thanks... I wasn't informed about the "come back in one week for us to re-tighten" thing.
Ok I will take note of this the next time round... My belt started to crack at 35k...
On a separate note, is there such thing as OVER-tightening of the belt?
-
I changed my fan belt at Riverview for $36. Labour charge was $15. Seems pretty reasonable comparing to autosavers.
-
I think TCM now got promotion. $1081 package for 4 servicings.....

Belt start to crack at 35k? does it fit into the maintenance guide to replace the belts around this mileage also?

Hi, i will be due for servicing at autosaver.
my problem is my car have a squeaking sound every morning i start the engine.
but after 15 mins or when engine warm up, the sound is gone.
anyone encounter this problem??
suspect the belt but which belt will likely to give this problem?
thanks

I don't think so... cos it's not quoted in the svc package. TCM attempted to charge me $90 for it!!! Belt is always "use until it STARTS TO crack" if im not wrong...Start to crack = hairline tiny 1mm crack span-wise... that was wat the foreman @ TCM Ubi told me.

I had this problem before I changed my belt, so my guess would be the belt. Change it! Worth the $$$! lol ;D

Hihi, I also have this prob....Seniors can advise why so?
-
yes, i have this problem too, once chg the belt & tighten, squeaking sound gone!! peace of mind :D
-
latio usin timing chain no timing belt
-
Does this timing chain= fan belt? I'm confused by all this haha. Mechanic told me fan belt was changed.
-
actually, it is a drive belt which links the crankshaft pulley, water pump, alternator and air conditioner compressor
the radiator fan is electric-driven
-
just curious hor... does the 'crankshaft pulley, water pump, alternator and air conditioner compressor' need any maintanance huh?? i was under the impression that all rotating parts need lubrication/grease repacking sometime or another...

Last time when I had this problem, I went back to TCM and the workshop spent half a day to troubleshoot and adjust for me (FOC).
Just ask Autosaver to rectify it for you, since you are going there for servicing.
-
going to due for 20000km servicing... which Autosaver is better? TCM is too Ex liao
-
Can try River View Auto too
http://www.riverviewauto.com.sg/
-
How much it cost at RV for a 20000km package?
-
yes, i have this problem too, once chg the belt & tighten, squeaking sound gone!! peace of mind :D
what is your milage when you changed the belt?
My car milage is around 40k, also same squeak sound after start up, and gone after 10+ minutes..
don't know why, belt also need warm up?
-
during 40k servicing.
got this sound long ago... since 20k i think or after i changed LWP. dun bother it as i know is the belt issue till 40 k than replace a new 1.
belt starts to cracks & torn under high temp, it get harden too

Call up riverview today, they quoted me $70 with original part from Japan with labor. Your part is original as well?
-
timing chain is inside the engine.the belt they refering to is the drive belt ,only one belt that drives all pulleys ;)
-
I called up RV asking about original left side skirting, they not sure what part is that, ask me to drive in and they will help to check outside.
Anyone got any other workshop that can replace original parts from Japan? thanks
