Title: latio aircon with Plasmacluster Ionizer?
Post by: kennytoh on August 03, 2009, 05:44:31 PM
my Double AIR Ionizer which i bought from autobac at $30+ spoilt after 2mths of usage. not really good.

thinking of getting another one. some of my frz recommend maier, sport autonizer.
http://www.maier.com.sg/pdts_ap_mhi301.html

but i understand that our latio aircon come with Plasmacluster Ionizer.
So do we need to purchase additional ionizer? or that alone is more than enough?

thank you for your time, please advice.

My family is doing food business, did some deliver with our latio every morning. Had many cars before this since 10+ years ago.

Every car we had will have some sort of after smell since we deliver food in the morning, together with the sweat smell. It's very hard to get rid, keep buying air freshener, put pandan leaves, wind down windows for few minutes whenever I drive. All who sit in our car will comment.

Now with latio, we never had the after smell anymore. Not a slight smell. The ionizer is definitely working very well. Tested and proven with real life examples.

I don't see why another ionizer is needed.

Have a piece of bread  inside your cabin, and another one sstuck outside. Drive with air con on for a day and see if the bread outside gets mouldy faster... Ok, I didn't think of it, just rippe off the idea from Sanyo PLasma filter demo at Best Denki

When the ionizer is in action, emits a chemical odour. If you dun notice that odour anymore, i guess, something is wrong then...

Is any maintenance needed for the ionizer?

when you on aircon, it will display "Clean" (top of your fan setting bars)  for ~ 15min then switch to "ION" (bottom of your fan setting bars). I guess that is when the ionizer kick in.

thought ionizer is for micro particles?
produced (-) ion to cluster with (+) ion for cleaner air?
dun think it's anything for smell.

Think it's more for particle trapping and even trapped bacteria.

Eh... i can't describe the smell... :-p but the smell is really different from normal cabin smell. I hope u din use any fregrance as it definitely cover the 'chemical' smell..

this is wat i understand also, when u see the 'ION', means ionizer is in action, together with the chemical smell... but i realise that i haven got that chemical smell for some time, not sure if the ionizer spoil liao...

side track abit...
this is one of the main reasons why the original OEM for Latio cabin air con filter is white. Due to in build ioniser, charcoal type air con filter is not really needed to reduce the smell.

I dun think the 'smell' u r describing is the 'chemical smell' that i am talking abt. By right the smell should come when the display show 'ION' (below the fan speed indicator).

If your ioniser is working, you will most probably smell like burning smell instead of chemical smell ?? My smell when on the aircon when starting the car is like stale smell. Only a few seconds and it gone.

either my ionizer not working or my nose not working  :D
i cannot detect any smell at all on or off the aircon. :confused1:
But i do encounter that "sour" smell before i do servicing. After changing air filter during servicing, never encounter anymore.

when I first change my cabin air filter at 30k, it looks like charcoal type filter... black with some funny things on it. If you have not change it for some time, get one from our forum member. It may be the source of the smell.

That 'stale' smell, i think almost every other car has it, when u turn on the fan without the aircon. After a while it will be gone, expecially after u on aircon. All cars that i have driven are like that...

Dunno why also....
