After parking and locking my car, the i-key indicator on the odometer is still blinking.
My SE said that it should be so as it means the security feature (i.e. immobolisation) is on and working, is he correct? My apology for the question as I'm a novice driver.
-
That is your immobiliser icon not I-key, 2 different things.
-
Oh, my mistake. So is the blinking ok?
-
should not be blinking leh.. mine's not after lock.
It only blinks if i did not do something correct like door not close properly, and usually it also comes with a long fast but soft "ti ti ti.." alarm.
-
it should be blinking to indicate it is in operation. ::)
-
Does the blinking occur only for certain cars or maybe the manufacturing year?
-
The key indicator if i'm not wrong would be either red or green? If green, keeps blinking and only go off about 5mins later might mean your ikey batt low, think read it somewhere in the manual.
-
ok my bad.. ::) I checked it just now. The blinking does happens. means yr immobilizer is in working condition and activated. it's red. It's quite hidden by the streeling wheel when u get out of the car so usually does not notice it. All the while i thought it's the i-key icon. sorry. ;D
-
If you had been using I-key for two+ years then it's probably the weak battery. Just like my case..
Try changing the I-key battery...simply pry it open with a screw driver and buy a similar replacment battery (I tink it's $2~2.50) at any watson/guardian or cold storage shop. Snap it in and it should be OK.
It worked in my case... ;D

i think the immobiliser icon is a shape of a car, red in colour, once u lock the car, it starts blinking. Think it is normal.

yeah rite. never really take notice until today. :D bcos it only blinks after u lock the car and the position is in the lower half and middle section, easily hidden by streeling whel.

Blinking red means cannot detect key, green means key detected, so dun knwo what color u see blinking, most likely red, so meaning got either phone interference or Signal, (happens when u go Esso stations and with some brand of mobile phone blue tooth) or key batt weak
-
Ok, thanks all of you for the info. The blinking should be normal that shows the immobiliser is on.

hope u not confuse. There are 2 lights we are talking here.
One is the immobiliser light (the one with car icon), should be blinking red after lock.
Another one is the i-key light (the one with key icon), should not be blinking after lock. ;)
