Hi Bros and Sis,
Need some help here. I had serviced my car at AS outlet at defu and had done a change of my fan belt as the old one was worn out. Problem is after changing it, there will also be a loud screeching sound heard whenever i start my car from cold start when the engine has cooled down :confused1: :confused1:. This sounds is no longer heard if i drive my car for about 5 mins and then power down and re crank again. The sound heard is like the kind of high pitch rubber rubbing sound.
The mechanic had done the following.
1) Tighten screws at the fan belt area.
2) Invert the new fan belt.
3) Changed to a new fan belt.
Despite all that the sound is still there. Does anyone know what else I can do. :crycry: This sound only came after I changed my fan belt thus that is why i think the problem is due to it. Before that car was fine. Really need some advice. Thanks. :( :(

could it due to bearing problem? had a similar problem before n solved at TCM
-
Hmm,
my warrenty just over in Nov. Ok will take note of that see if AS can solve if not then go back TC. Worried that TC will charge me a lot since warrenty is over. Thanks for the quick reply.

Mine belt was changed at TC. It had this problem as well. Went back to them & they tigthen the belt and all is solved.
-
Just got the belt changed last week at TCM during my 50k servicing after I complained sound during cold start and no more sound heard after then. It's better to go back AS to check if the belt is properly install or not.
-
Hai,
Problem is I went back to the defu lane AS already 3 times.
1)Tighten
2)invert the belt
3)changed to another new fan belt
Now sound still there. Thanks all for the advice. I will go back again on mon and this time I probably will camp there till problem is solved. :crycry:

better than you go back to AS, pay less $ but nothing fix. If you are using any service package from AS can you ask them to fix till problem solved? I hate those workshops that push you around when they can't solve your problem.
-
TCM quoted me $95 for changing the belt. It is a wear and tear issue therefore warrenty doesn't cover.
AS quoted me $90 so in the end I have decided to go back to TCM.
-
Thanks all for the advice. Call TCM today and they said need to charge me 80 dollars for to inspect the problem. :( AS told me they will order another kind of belt see if can solve. If really cannot then will got back to TCM to settle. :nonod:
-
$80 at Tan Chong to just inspect the belt?
Excludes the belt?
-
Ya. She says they have to inspect where the problem arise from thus the need to pay $80 bucks for that. It does not include the cost of the belt.
-
Go to outside workhop la... forget it... $80 just to check? Wa lao...siao...

TS did just that. He went to AS 3 times yet AS asked him to go back TCM. So which workshop to try next?
-
Sorry pal, didnt read carefully. Just feel that pay-to-investigate-the-problem style by TCM is bullshit.
Have to ask around and try other workshops if can. Anyway warranty over already right?

Don't need to go anywhere as AS is trying to solve the problem.
Just another word about TCM, I did do my service at TCM during the warranty period and when my air-con compressor busted, the want to F******G plug in the Consult and charged me $80 for that to confirm that the aircon compressor is busted. Told the Service consultant to FO and get the Mechanic to talk to me. In the end, they changed the compressor without plugging in the consult. Nothing against them but sometimes these corporate policies really gets on my nerves and the staff also blur.
-
those damn blood suckin SA only knws how to say plug in consult & charge innocent customers like us $70-80 for sometin that simply has no link to that handheld gadget of theirs...
Few wks back when i complained to a SA @ bt timah svc ctr abt my car vibratin very badly, he say must plug consult in then can check he say cost 79 bucks and i say ok lor go ahead but end up he say consult check nothin is wrong with engine & leave my problem unsolved...
Fcuk him lar took leave send car in, in the end kenna conned $80 and nothin is done to the car.

I feel strongly what you are feeling regarding this.... usually if this is the case i will try to bring the car elsewhere... unless on NPMP.
Are you on NPMP?

I have the same issue as you after changing my belt as AS Kaki Bukit. Went back to the mechanic after 3 weeks of screeching during cold start.
After 3 months and 3600km since the last servicing, my screeching sound still there.
Guess I'll have to live with it too.
-
Sigh the AS mechanic also told me its a common problem leh. I told him about tighten the belt but he told me not advisable as can shorten the lifespan of the belt. :confused1: now waiting for them to order a new belt for me then go down to change again. :crying:
-
Here is the problem and I checked with a very experience SA at TC (who became a fren of sorts)
The tension in the belt is causing the sound....
It is the RIGHT tension... not just make it tighter...
I had this problem when I changed it at my wshop, then can;t fix, when to TC ask my SA, he says tension.
But, tension is a trial and error thing for the mechanic... no measurement... so even at TC may also be like that...
Just go back to ur whsop and ask them to adjust (not tighten only may loosen) the tension.
Too tight, got sound.....
