Pluzzed about Servicing Done by Autosaver
« on: February 08, 2010, 10:59:07 AM »
Hi, I have sent my car to Autosaver twice after my warranty has expired in March 2009.
My 1st visit was pretty straight forward (changing of motor oil only).
but 5 mths later, I experienced a sound coming out from one of my front tyres when I moved.
I went back to Autosaver & they told me that all my brakes (Disc pad & Drums) are wearing thin & the sound I heard
is actually becos my disc pad has worn off, causing the frictions. (1st servicing & brakes replacements done at Defu).
I had my Latio send to Autosaver for the TC version of package B service in end Jan 2010.
After the service, I checked & discovered that there was a slight scratch on the right corner of my front bumper.
There was actually a slight scratch before but it was only a minor scatch (paint still there).
The scratch I discovered was more and it has black oil stain there.

I was very upset when I confronted them, they all denied causing anything. Nevertheless, there was nothing I could do as they took a special solution to wipe & clear some scratches away.

The next 2 alarming issues told to me was that they discovered oil on my gearbox, telling me that its a possible oil leak from my gearbox.
Plus that some rubber ard my brakes are wearing off. Asking me to go TC to check again.
As I was in a hurry to pickup my son, I decided not to question them (Very annoyed that they didnt even bother to call & tell me & asked if I want to change, out of safety concerns).

The next day, I sent my car to TC & informed the SA on the issues pointed out by Autosavers.  The SA called after more than half a day, informing me that they had actually took out the gearbox, checked, cleaned & even tested on the road & recheck again for that possible oil leak. All fine but brakes, they told me that its ok. All done without any charges at all!

What I want to highlight here is that Autosaver does not seem to be doing what they have indicated in their official website.
If there are anything that concerns the safety of the passengers, they must call & advise us to  change instead of telling me to go to TC & check.

So if its just an engine oil change, anywhere will be fine (not necessary to go to Autosaver). But if its a major service, please go back to TC. I believe they are more responsible but expensive.
Alot of time wasted going from one workshop to another becos Autosaver didnt do their job.

so far the branch in the west seems ok to me at the moment, the chief mech knws his job well. When there is any wear & tear parts dat needs to be replaced, he will inform me and seek my opinion 1st b4 carryin out the job.                     Dunno abt the other branches in the east though never patronise them b4

Good Day,

I went for my 40k servicing at AS west branch recently. Was told by the mechanic that both brake pads and shoes worn off. Need to replace for $135 x 2 pairs. I did not verify as was in a rush then, so asked them to proceed.

But thinking about it now, rear brakes should have lasted longer than the front pads. Actually i should have waited and check physically the wear and tear first.

Last time, I brought my Sunny for them for 20k servicing. They asked me to change the spark plug and air filter. I bodoh then. So, they still play this trick after so many years.

I was surprised to hear the negative feedback. I went to my 20k in the West Branch for servicing few months ago, the technician told me that the brake pads could last for another 10K, to change in my next visit. He said that Nissan brake pads are not as good as the Toyota. Am I kena smoked ? On the whole, the servicing was quite a good one.

For Riverview, went before for my previous car. Also another hard selling workshop, but I stood firm on  not changing the unneccessary parts. After that, didn't return anymore.

My car coming to 60K, TC never ask me to change brake pad... Maybe next servicing I ask them to check thoroughly. But 30K to change brake pad, also seem too soon, unless you are those who always brake alot..

Indeed, they are very friendly and explain the reason to change very nicely and convincingly. That's why I agreed to change.
Btw, my old sunny (again), 100k km, never change brake pad. Yes, I am not the chiong type and release gas early before stopping. But 100k vs 20k? You judge.

Think our Latio original brake pad can last abt 60k,
I change mine at 100k (actually still use, but since servicing..so change la)
Rear brake sure can last much longer.
Did not change rear as TC mentioned still can use.
Change brake at 40K, think unless alot of brake stop (city drive)
and hard braking (racer driver).....hahahaha

Similarly, both my brake pads & shoes were changed off at 60k km at AS Ubi. Mech told me can last another 5km but I changed it since car was already there for servicing.
If I remember correctly, the drum shoes should be cheaper.

I have been going to Autosaver for servicing for years - when I was driving my old Sunny as well as twice after change to Latio.

My experience with them used to be very nice - I could find a stool and sit near my car as they serviced it, and they'd briefly tell me what they are doing to the car (eg. this part is worn out, see here.. and this is the new part we are going fit in etc).  I always left the workshop feeling the time and money well spent.

Nowadays, they are a bit more commercialised already.  The workshop is always busy and the car don't get attended to even when booking was done.  I can no longer see the car being serviced (in fact, I'm always asked to leave the car with them).

Recently, after my 2 negative experience with them on my Latio, I'm having 2nd thoughts going back to them again (I suspect their mechanic doesn't know the car well, and dunno if they really went thru the 40k servicing)

Maybe I'd switch back to TC for a better peace of mind.

Read about this new workshop in the west thru the motoring mag.

www.autoaid.com.sg

anyone has any idea about their work quality? they boast Nissan parts.

i was told that for cars after warranty, it will be serviced by subcon pple who are stationed in TC...only those under warranty will be serviced by TC pple....

remember my car got a crackling sound when start cold....TC asked me to do top overhaul and no guarantee will solve the problem....went to get 2nd opinion at another w/s..the w/s called his friend in TC who is a subcon there..his advise was the motor no more in production...just oil it can liao....all older version latio will have this sound....so they open dashboard to oil the motor for the airvent and now no more such sound....

Any evidence that cars after warranty period will be serviced by sub contractors stationed in Tan Chong?

Maybe it will be nice if you could share the source of your information.

For me, I don't care if the guy service my car is TC staff or subcon or even illegal worker. I send my car to TC, TC is responsible to return my car in good condition. If have any problem, I go after TC, not the individual mechanic. Same goes to outside workshop. We go after the workshop or the boss, not the person who damage the car.
