How much $ to change steering coupling at TC?
« on: June 25, 2010, 03:38:00 PM »
Hi all,
During warranty, change 2 or 3 times.
Now warranty over already...tick tick sound is back ...
3.5 yrs old saloon, 120K mileage.

Anyone knows how much to change?
Any warranty after change?
(for parts changed)

If to leave it, not to change, will it affect anything?
Safety?
Thanks for all replies

try go back to TCM and point that you had changed 3 time during warranty period, ask them to change FOC since it just passed 1/2 non warranty.
Zoom first talk later

I'm facing the same problem as TS

Replaced during warranty and problem arise again not long after warranty was over. TC refused to replace despite me making noise everytime i send my car in to service. The only thing they do is to grease the coupling each time i complain. Noise would return after a couple of months

Even if i were to pay for it i was advised not to do so as the problem would eventually return again. They claim that it's a manufacturing defect and that they've contacted Nissan Japan and is awaiting a response but it's been like a year or so already and i've been having this problem since 3 years ago (my ride is 4 years+ now). Nissan taking alittle too long?

Latio is surprisingly disappointing in terms of build quality for a Nissan, made in Japan car

Steering Coupling
Alternator
Compressor
Cooling Coil
Belt
CVT gearbox (still going strong at 100K KM hopefully will remain as it is)

Their previous Nissan Sunny was one hell of a rugged car and is waaaay better compared to the Latio. 160K KM and no such problems what so ever. Even Korean cars seem to be more reliable then our Nissan. Friends driving Matrix and Magentis slightly older then my Latio have not faced any problems at all

Were you under their NPMP? If yes, should not be a problem for them to help FOC.

I also have this problem as well. But what they told me they have done is to tighten it. But after a while, it comes back like what you mentioned.

Hi,
Guess when TC mentioned to me 'changed steering couple',
i suspect that they jus grease it as it came back everytime
after a while.
If the sound coming back after repair, think i will wait for a while n see.
Will bring back to TC for advise on safety issue.
Thanks

I've changed, about 2 times during warranty, TC service adviser told me no point keep changing after warranty expired, it's the design problem from the manfacturer. :glare:
this problem will not cause any safety issue on our car, somehow feel uncomfortable hearing tock tock sound when turning.
Now  have to live with it, whenever I send my car for service at TC, I will request them to apply grease.

Sometimes if the problem not big I suggest better dun ask TCM to change. You may not know the skill level of the mechanic who reassemble for you. Skali small problem become worse. :P

When I heard a fan belt noise at 30,000km I requested that they fix, so they changed the fan belt ... then at 40,000km my aircon uplorry. I am not sure if they are related though.

The saying goes... if it ain't broke... don't fix it :P

Try not to turn steering wheel when car is stationary.

Even during tight car park, let your wheels move slowly while turning.

I guess not many people practice this method. If you learned driving here and the tester may deduct points for turning steering wheel while stationary.

Just did my car servicing at Kulai, Johor last saturday.

As my car previously got very big "tok tok" sound while turning the steering to the left (on both forward or reverse) and been told by TCM people that is caused by the blended steering leg of my ride. TCM people also told me that to change the whole steering leg part + labour charge is around SGD1500++ which shocked me.

So, during I did my car servicing at JB, I ask the foreman to help me verify the issue. What suprising me is the foreman just lift up my car and tighten up few nuts at the car bone (under the engine bay). Now the obvious "tok tok" sound is gone. LOL

same here. change at least 3 times, Warranty just expire and the sound is back. I dont trust TCM. They claim they change this change that but i really have my doubt. Definitely not going back to TCM for future servicing. Its a total waste of time and $.

I understand the fault with Latio steering coupling is a manufacturing fault.

It does not affect funcation or feature of the car.

I have changed mine twice and the noise comes back within 6 mth after each change.
