undercarriage squeaking sound
« on: January 12, 2011, 11:20:32 PM »
Hi people, recently i found out that the undercarriage of my car is making a squeaking sound. It can only be heard when the gear is being engaged in D and the car is in complete stop. The sound is gone when the gear is being shift to N. Heard it when i was at the singapore custom waiting for my passport to be scan. It is high pitch and quite noticeable. Surprisely when i open the bonnet the sound does not seem to come from there. It seem to be coming from right under the dashboard area. Any bros have the same sound?  :confused1:

Bro, it's the exhaust collar worn out. Changed twice but sound also came back. Due to the soft suspension and low exhaust that's why collar worn out easily. There's 2 collar holding the exhaust, one near engine and one in the middle of the body.

i had a similar sound after my last servicing 50k.  At first i thought it was one of the belts or bearings giving way.  After 2 months, the sound "disappeared" and i couldn't replicate it at the service centre.  The mechanic did tell me it could be the exhaust collar.  How would this cause a squeaking sound?

Due to the vibration of the exhaust....
Bcos when we engage gear, car will vibrate hence causing the exhaust to vibrate too. If engage neutral, car is at idling so not much vibration

Hi bro, which service center did you went to. I went to TCM@BT and they charge me 90 plus. They told me it does not cover under the warranty, due to wear and tear.

I always service my car at UBI. You should bang their table if they want to charge you as this is their design fault

My problem is when vehicle is in D mode and stationary, stepping on the brakes I hear ringing sound from the undercarriage. Will be sending in to TLC to check it out when I am doing my final free servicing of 50K.

Crusty69, if hisses sound occurs whenever you turn on your A/C but the hisses sound gone when you turn off your A/C... just go and ask to change the Alternator Belt. not that expensive. Sure your car quiet like new.

I will bringing it in on 1st Feb to TCM at Loyang but heard from my colleague that technician there not as experience as those at Kg. Ubi...no choice for me thou cos that is the nearest place for me from work...if not have to take leave to do servicing..

Just to clarify mine is not so much a hissing sound but more like a high pitch ringing from the undercarriage.. its not audible when the windows are wind up but I found out only when I wind down my window to reverse..

The last time I told the SA about the hissing sound when I turned on air con they say its due to the gas against the piping..

The Hissing sound is the sound of the Aircon Compressor pumping. I think this is normal as I have had this on all cars I've owned before. It will come on with a whirring sound then once cold, the compressor cutoff will result in a hiss that tapers off.

On the squeaking sound, this caused by the alternator belt (located on the left side) I change the belat my last service and it stopped, but after about 10k km the squeek has returned. You might also hear a loud squeak when you start the engine.

A mechanic once taught me to put a few drops of engine oil on the belt wheel (use dipstick and drop) and it will stop, but this is a temporary solution and not recommended by TCM.

I  have that too and my belt is only 15000km. Are you guys on the light weight pulley? I was thinkking it could be the wear on the light weight pulley and the new belt not sitting properly. Is that possible?
