Aircon blowing out warm air
« on: December 03, 2011, 05:08:19 PM »
Hi bros and sistas,

My car aircon suddenly start to blow out warm air since last week, today went to TC and was quoted $1.6k to change compressor and cooling coil. Ive read here that if the compressor fails there should be a distinct hissing/high pitch sound, that I didn't hear at all from my car. All i can hear is the aircon is like constantly sucking in air. Anyone able to advise the likely problem or recommend reliable workshops to get an assessment? Thanks in advance!

need to check whether is it the compressor that give way or the cooling coil leak.did u heard any hissing noise coming from the driver side below the dashboard?or it just blow hot air suddenly.

dont hear any hissing sound, it just starts to blow hot air suddenly. it's like it draws air from outside as per normal, but the air it blows out is hot.

Yeah, TCM is infamous for its high costs. My cooling coil was also spoilt few months back. TCM also told me need to change compressor and cooling coil and also quoted me 1.6k. I told them don't do anything to my car and went to Autoaid. They told me nothing is wrong with my compressor and they just changed my cooling coil. I paid $500 plus for that. Till today, my compressor still working. My advise is to go to other workshops to get it checked, don't just rely on TCM diagnostic results.

Better to send the car to qualified aircon service company once a year to ensure aircon system is properly maintained as we use the car pretty often.  Usually the cost is around $60-70 per session.

After i came back from Genting last week, i heared hissing sound of the air-con gas pipe under the dashboard.  My car is 2yr and 10 months old.  TCM replaced the fan coil unit FOC, but have to pay for gas.  By the way, how much you guys pay for the compressor?

went to a workshop recoomended by my colleague at AMK. changed the compressor for $535. but after changing the person said my cooling coil at the dashboard might be faulty too, need to observe for the next few weeks to see if need to change, keeping my fingers crossed.

My 2007 hatchback also had this problem (blow out warm air) a few months back. I got it fixed by changing the air con coil.

Last week, it become not cool again (but not warm air). So I went to a nearby car workshop, and I was told that maybe compressor problem, as the car could not engage the compressor. I was told to come back after lunar year for repair.

Is it common to change coil then compressor? Is this a sign of aging for my 4 years old car?

what my repair person told me is that it's quite common for aircon compressor and coil to spoil after 4/5 years. for my case, after he changed my compressor he also told me that the aircon gas show signs of minor leakage, so may need to change the cooling coil in the next 2-3 weeks as well. but till now, after more than a month, aircon is still cold, keeping my fingers crossed.

Ha, so it is time!!!
My air con managed to push through CNY. Hopefully can last longer before it needs to be replaced.

Keeping my finger crossed too

My aircon was blowing intermittent hotair.  Went to aircon specialist at Autobay, mechanic said compressor clutch plate worn off.  Learnt that the compressor actually has a clutch plates with a paper-thin washer in between.  Mechanic removed the washer so that the plates has bettter grip and my aircon back to normal.
