Compliments for Latio Expert Kelvin
« on: May 10, 2012, 03:18:11 PM »
Got to know him through this forum. I just bought a second hand Latio for my work use. The car expectedly has some faults and parts to be replaced. Saw that he does replacement for plugs thus called him to arrange. He surprised me by offering to come over to my work place. His price is very friendly too.

Next, my ride has a severe jerk and loud thud whenever I release the foot brake and move off. I was doing my engine flush and servicing at Autobacs so ask the mech to open up and let me check, the rear brake pump was leaking badly and the FRIENDLY mech quoted me $720 to replace the pump and horseshoe :D So I called Kelvin, again he surprised me with his price and offered to do it on Sun evening at a MSCP near my place. Happily took up the offer and was glad that I did. He was very thorough with his job and he indeed knows the car inside out.

Lately, I notice that the engine vibrates a lot esp between 2.5k to 3.5k RPM and Kelvin also confirmed that my engine mountings up lorry liao. So arrange for an appointment with him to change my CVT fluid and same time replace the mountings. Again, the price is amazingly reasonable and he really helped me save a lot of money. More importantly is that he knows the car inside out and gives me extra confidence in his work.

The car drives superbly and silently now. Good as new though already a 7 yr old ride :) In a nutshell, he knows what problem this car has and is never pushy in asking you to change. In fact, he told me to dong with my mountings and see how, can save save but I am glad I changed them :)

Give this guy a try for your servicing or parts replacement, you will know what I mean :)

-Extremely happy customer, Ironheart

i would say price wise is all about there, except bro kelvin don't charge GST.

the other important thing is that he was able to correctly diagnose our cars common fault, else if you are just doing normal servicing, then not much different.

Bro kelvin,

I got few issue with my Latio premium. Though still got few months warranty with TC, but they cant solve my issues.

1) When the air-con mode is set to front blowing. When my car is at stationary position, the front lower part of the windscreen actually mist up, which mean that the air con leak from there?

2) Idling problem- Car always vibrate when in stationary position when D is engaged.

3) Radio signal very poor - this happen when my ex ICE installer cut and rejoined back my antenna. My current ice installer said that I need to change to a whole new antenna wiring else no way to get clear radio reception.

4) Do u do soundproof for floor board?

Thank you. I guess some of the bros here also keen to know the answers to my questions.

For 2) I have the same issue. Thus, I usually shift to neutral when the car is in stationary position at the traffic light. I have never experienced 1) before. 5 year old latio sport premium. :)

hi bro,
1) ur a/c is not leaking.did u do something to the dashboard,eg ice installation(sound proofing on dashboard)the only way is to seal up the front portion of ur air con vent .
2)vibration is it very bad.if not it's normal cos wear and tear of the mountings(harden up) and also when on 'D' or 'R' mode there's load acting on ur engine so causing it to vibrate. can arrange for a test drive and i 'll check for u.
3)cut means breaking the connection ,so no choice have to renew .
4)no,but i got lobang leh.
anything not sure can drop by my workshop, thanks .

I used to have that irritating vibration due to low idling speed and worn engine mountings, after replacing the mountings and cleaning of the throttle body, no more vibrations and also no more loud engine sound/vibration at around 3k rpm.

As for gears, it is always recommended to keep the gear in D on the road unless prolonged period of stationary. If one keep changing to N at every junction and stop, it is actually doing more harm to the gearbox.

For routine servicing, I dun think there will be much difference between AS and him as the margin spread is actually quite compressed even for places like Autobacs. But when it comes to stuff like mountings replacement, brake pump replacement, absorber replacement, etc kind of repairs, the difference is quite substantial, sometimes, very substantial.
