Chip windscreen

Hi all,

Was driving home just now when this happen. Think a stone chip just fly into the path of my car. Heard a lot chip on my windscreen, for a while though it going to crack. Thank God it still hold. Once home, got down to inspect the damage. my flawless wirescreen now have to chip on it.

Any advice how to remove or repair it. I hope I dont have to replace the whole wind screen.

My car 4 months old. Now got at least 3 chips. So on average every month i get almost 1.
So ppl advise me just live with it and wait for a big one to smash the whole screen then change.

If you can't stand the chip, try this guy. Not related to him just cut and paste but think someone from this forum ever tried his service. The chip is gone but there is a small but hardly visible mark.

Hello all,

Trying to search for help here n found this topic.. so sway, my windscreen has a line cracked at the side (~ 6 inch length) .. don know how it happened.. but when checked, probably kena hit by stone, and the crack starts to appear from the hitspot. Now I am afraid the crack might get longer, wondering the long crack line can be repaired/covered? Anybody tried this repair b4, or any recommendation to get it repair?

If cannt, guess got to change the whole windscreen.. haiz..

check your insurance, if your windscreen excess is nil then change it, same old NCD. Mine is pending as they want to change mine to clear type but I insist to get those tinted with sun shade type. For my case, the chip and crack line did not expanse as I try not to park my car under hot sun. Big temperature diff btw inside car and outside will make your crack worst.

Will check my policy later, tink mine has access.

When u mentioned windscreen with the sun shaded type, u mean our original "tinted" at the top? They dont hv the original tinted type? Mine lagi worst.. cos tink have to replace my Tinted UV film also, so hv to spend additional here.

Just check NTUC (my insurance), luckily Autolution is 1 of the authorised workshop (TC Ubi), at least can go tere n get it changed with the original..

Just called Autoclinic (TC Ubi), they say they nd to c 1st n then submit our form to NTUC Income for approval. So hv to go twice, come back again the next day once NTUC approve. Aiyo.. so ma fan.. but my insurance said i m allowed to go to Autoclinic, din mentioned has to arrange 2 times go tere.

The other option tink will b to go to non-TC, given two names = Automotive Glass Works and Tuffi, n do straight away, but of cos has to make appt oso.

Anybody has experienced with Automotive Glass Works at AMK? I feel more comfortable if can send to Autoclinic to do, at least they are TC Authorised Workshop.

Bring a copy of your Certificate of insurance then go the the workshop. They need to SEE the crack (cant see then wreck one ) then can proceed to claim.

Did you list solar film as accessory in insurance? can ask if NTUC will pay for it. Some solar film package include one windscreen replacement within a year or so.

Went to Autolution (hehe.. typo error, not Autoclinic) and fill-up a claim form, stil hv to wait for NTUC Income approval. But quite fed-up when Autolution staff said they stil nd to get approval b4 they can start doing. Got to go there twice. I hv complained to NTUC that they shd hv not authorised them if still nd to get approval to replace the windscreen. Somemre I hv called NTUC earlier and they confirmed I can go there and change.

Haiz, as for my film, guess needs to do a new 1, not mentioned in my insurance cover last time. Does any insurance covers the film replacement as well?

Hehe.. remember when i called them yest, i only mentioned my car is Latio, the guy (rem his name is Colin i tink) directly said the windscreen with "sunshade" at top.. i say yes.. then he said got stocks. Tink Sedan and Sport windscreen shd b the same. Btw, u on NTUC Income? Just notice mine actually Drivo Classic, but my windscreen access is Nil.. hehe.. tink mayb bcos my NCD nw is 50%. Last yr mine was still with access of $100.

Let me know once u hv done urs at Automotive Glass, at least for members here to see how their job, good or not. :) I ll update mine once i can get it done at Autolution (TC).

At last managed to get it replaced at Autolution Ubi (TC Ubi) today, after ding-dong with Income for 2 days. They have replied by e-mail to me and said I am not allowed to do it at Autolution, only can go Automotive Glass Works and Tuffi. Was quite fed-up and complained to them that their operator should hv not checked and confirmed for me to go to Autolution if I cannt. And they blaimed the operator for passing me the wrong info. Later even said that they did not received the Claim Form from Autolution.

Well, cool-down and later called Automotive Glass and ask for appointment. Unfortunately the lady said they do not have stocks of our "tinted" windscreen, and some even have waited for more than a mth.. guess u mus b 1 of them. So I ctc back Income and mentioned to them that I cannot wait for so long, ask them to check their other workshops if they hv stocks. Later they called me and said at last I can go back to Autolution to get it replace. So make appt the nex mng immediately (that is today) with Autolution Ubi, left my car there fr 8.30am till 3.30pm b4 it was ready.

So now at last I get my original tinted windscreen replaced at Autolution = TC Ubi. Hooray...

.... the crack juz get longer and longer... due to hot weather - expansion....

... no choice need to replace ... paid by insurance .. but must still pay $100.
however, the solar film gone...

now when I drive... avoid the grass cutter.... they are a source of the flying stones....

Aiyo, do they "pakat" with NTUC to cheat us to replace the normal clear windscreen type? Or they replace us the normal 1, then later they claim fr NTUC tinted 1? Me almost go down there to fix with the clear type also (made an appt) since I ll b doing again my car film with sun shade.. but luckily NTUC called me back and said I can go Autolution, so i cancelled my appt with Automotive Glass.. hmm.. u shd hv mayb try to call NTUC bac and ask for replacement urgently at Autolution, at least can get it settle there with original distributor, more peace of mind..

Tink u cant jus pop by to workshop, as NTUC also advise us to call and make appt n check got stocks or not.. of cos can do tt, but mayb stil hv to go twice if they stil nd to get approval (like Autolution) or no stocks..

Bro, u applying ur new car film or not? I hv checked with 3M (as I used 3M last time), and they quoted me $250 (for the highest premium grade), any lubang for better deal?

Got it done in 20min the other day. (touch wood) next time I will bring WD40 with me to lub the wiper arm which was expose when they remove the windscreen.

I am looking for solar film for the whole car too, better apply it when the glass is still smooth and clear. 3M good?

I particularly goes for highest IRR (Infra Red Rejection) and of cos brand must be reliable. During 3 yrs ago, found 3M has highest IRR, even higher than VKool or Huper.. so use 3M lor.

Btw, jus went to Tintsycool to do my front windscreen film, choose their Platinum Plus with highest IRR also.. not sure about this brand, but did it at $260 - 10% = $234. Was quoted $300 by 3M, and $260 by VKool. Since aldy drove for >3 yrs, i choose Tintsycool since wont b driving longer.. find the heat rejection ok, comparable with my previous 3M.. and 3M and Vkool has to make appt in advance, so cant wait n pop by at Tintsy cool.

Other than that, the applicator (person who apply the film) mus b skillful, u may wan to insist their experience staff to do it for u (any brand) in order to ensure u hv less bubbles/or contamination problem.
