Best Petrol Deal - ESSO
« on: August 04, 2008, 10:30:33 AM »
Caltex has now revised its "Thanks" rewards.

It used to be $1.25 = 1 point.

Now it is 1 litre = 1 point which translates to $1.90 = 1 point at currrent pump prices

Same for Shell. Also 1 litre = 1 point

Esso is still $1.25 = 1 point.

Points Summary

Caltex 1200 pts = $40 fuel

Shell 1350 pts = $40 fuel

Esso 750 pts = $30 fuel  =  BEST DEAL !!!   ;D  ;D  ;D

For Esso, use Citibank Dividend credit card to pay and get extra 8% rebate = 13% discount !!! Plus 750 points = $30 petrol voucher = additional 3.2% discount. GRAND TOTAL = 16.2% DISCOUNT

* I did not include SPC as I find that it gives very poor mileage and it makes my engine very loud and rough

Hi,

Thanks for sharing that. I am on Caltex Starcard. Am getting 16% discount as I am an employee of one of the Temasek group of companies.

Looks like Esso discount scheme better leh.

Just wondering for those guys (gals included) who feed Esso to our latio, any good or bad comments. I am curious :)

Personally I have Shell and Caltex. Seem like Caltex most powerful. Shell is smooth but not as powerful as Caltex.

Hi chansm78

Yes I work for NCS. A subsidary of Singtel (ST). It is 14% if didn't request for motor insurance quotation and 16% if one requests.

So I request lor ... of course I won't take up .. my car is still under the default AIG insurance .. haha

Why can't the petrol companies offer the same for everyone?

We are working for the same country / gaverment and we are part or sub-part of Temasek group. You know how big is Temasek?

There are still margins even if the petrol discount is at 16%. The diff of 6% is pocket money for the petrol company.

Must get my HR to contact Temasek.

hi Xmen

there are differences.

1) corporate has headcount, for e.g. my co. has > 1000 employees
2) more employees, more fuel usage, caltex mthly profit surge upwards

keyword - volume!
lower profit margin but higher volume which might result in higher PROFIT.

in chinese, 4 words - 薄利多销.

regards.

Me sama sama as you...under the essomobil...been pumping then for 8 years...used to be 16% but drop till 12%. Envy those who are getting 16% discount.

But those who get 16% discount are not entitled to 'Smiles' points, which translate to another 3.2% discount if you redeem 750 'Smiles' points for a $30 petrol voucher.

Hi clarence

Actually besides getting the 16% discount, I still clock the usual thanks points.

Hi,

After thinking through i dun think i wanna apply for the citibank divident card for an extra 0.2% discount. More cards means more paper work and I hate paper work.

I think i still like Caltex RON 98. Feel more powerful than 95.

Good thing, i think my ECU are getting more used to this fuel liao. Am feeling a smoother ride. FC looks better too.

Citibank Dividend card offers an extra 3% discount for Esso petrol, not 0.2%. So total = 13%

You also get dining rebate of 2%.

Just checked Citibank website, divident card offers 5% cash rebate for petrol. May I check where does the extra 3% come from?

The extra 3% rebate is an ongoing promotion which had no expiry date.

And to think that some biggies from a petrol company wrote in to ST to say they are not earning extra ordinary profit....they can even afford to give up to 16% discount on top of their profits...
