Engine bay very hot
« on: October 04, 2008, 11:51:13 PM »
Hi guys,
just wanna check with u guys if the engine bay of latio usually rather hot after drive? I find it pretty hot compared to my previous vios. On the other hand, is there a need to put in cold air intake? last time vios i did install cos vios's air intake somewhat hanging in wrong position. latio's seem well designed... but second look... bonnet blocking the intake...?
     please advise.

huh engine bay of course hot mah

personally i tink Latio's engineers had already placed the air intake in the best position.  doing CAI may not help much. the air intake pipe is more like allowing air to flow in naturally, not by induction such as a supercharger. it doesn't matter if the bonnet is "blocking" the air intake.

oh ok thanks. but seriously... it felt hotter than my previous vios. and the problem is,... last time vios was manual drive and even after i wacked something like 6k rpm for the last stretch of the road nearing home, it's not even as hot as my current latio when i am so light footed.

Maybe Vios bonnet metal is thinner, so cool down faster..   :devil2:

Can you elaborate what you mean that Latio engine is more hot than Vios engine?

Latio bonnet tends to be hotter at the sides, as under the top of the bonnet has insulation.

This is normal. Your engine operating temperature is in excess of 100 degrees.

Latio engine compartment is quite spaced out, so it is not so bad.

Wait till you see the compacked engine bay of some European marques. The heat in the engine bay is even more overwhelming.

ya true enuff. and continental car engines usually have nice cover. makes it even harder for hot air to escape. but some have cooler fans tat activate when the temperature gets too high. it will also be activated for 2 mins after the driver switch off the engine.
