Blue Engine Oil Indicator Light
« on: October 21, 2008, 10:26:00 AM »
Hi,

When starting my car (Latio/Sedan/Premium) every morning notice there is one blue engine oil light. The manual says it lights up when engine oil is cold. Usually I idle for a few minutes on 'Park'  for the blue light to go off before putting the car on 'Drive'. Is it necessary to wait?

usually we will wait till the blue light is off b4 we move off...but some of us here will move off slowly with the blue light on and
pick up speed once the blue light is gone.

not so good for the engine in the long run if u keep driving off with a cold engine.

Hi SC

Relax.
It is normal. It takes abt 1 to 2min for the Engine to warm up before you start to drive.
But usually, when I see the RPM drop to abt 1200rpm (the blue light still on), I can start to drive liao but drive at SLOW SPEED until the blue light is off.
sorry, i must agree because i don't know how to disagree. agreeeee only....

You only need to be seriously alarm if the same logo comes out in red...it means engine overheat....might explode and catch fire if u dun stop the car and turn off the engine....

How did u get it overheat? Had never driven a car until it is overheat...cost a lot of $$$ to replace the fanbelt?

usually i also wait for the blue light to goes off then drive off...  i suppose that is the temperature rite...  usually it will goes off around 1K or 900 rpm

if really need, dun on the aircon first if you were to drive off with the blue light on

my personal preference...  :bleh:

Without the fan belt, the water pump won't be functioning.  Overheating will be expected.  Battery will be the next to go flat as alternator is also not working to re-charge the battery.

The problem without a temperature gauge is when the red light bulb indicating obverheating, blows without us knowing.

nope, the bulk of the $ was on the towing. the fan belt was replaced free by the workshop (Chip Soon @ Tampines Industrial Park) because prior to the shredding, they installed a new fanbelt. but sad to say, that fanbelt either isnt of good quality, or they had tighten too much.

yes, hence such, it may be a good idea to have a gauge or some sensor to display the water temp.

according to my overheating experience, the engine overheat check light comes on when the water temp hits 105 degrees celcius

To be on the safe side ( prevention is better than cure ), i installed the voltage & temp gauges.
