Cannot be refunded, your old car will be sold with the road tax that you already paid.

she told me i have to wait for the the dealer to de-register the car first then wait lta to return t refund to dealer before it will return me the balance (which tk 1 month plus).

however, i alr take my new ride and how to trace whether dealer got de-register anot as the car will be transfer to the dealer name.

This kind of thing cannot be helped lah... which is why it is best to always only update road tax every 6mths... just in case you change your ride.

Luckily for me, I received my new Latio Sports <1wk before road tax of my old car expire, which is perfect.

actually I am quite bewildered and aghast at the attitudes of many who simply resign their fate to the fact that dealers and intermediaries are siphoning your money, paid in full to the gov.

the fact that many treat that few hundreds bucks like too small when these dealers are actually ripping many of us off by a lot higher margin.

Something is very wrong in the system. The gov make it such a convenience for us to pay road tax but so difficult to refund to the owner the taxes not due.

This is such a corrupt system, who knows if LTA pockets the money, the dealers or so many other down the line.

The gov are quick to fix property dealers market, stopping speculative trade, agents fee etc. But look at the motor industry practice, its practically a corrupted system and rampant corruption in operation

sometime things are beyond ur control.
my coe expired in end nov and that was the time coe crash and make the car price so attractive.
if not for the attractive price, i will never thing of changing my ride.

u r pretty luck for ur case.

Hi, when I traded-in mine, I got my road tax back.  My SE helped me chased/reminded the second hand car dealer to ensure that I get back the balance road tax.  Managed to get back a few hundred bucks without any problem.  I used to pay one year road tax together with the insurance premium.  Think I received letters to inform me of (a) transfer of ownership and (b) de-registration of the car (not sure why I was informed and I just ignored it).

Must get your SE to settle with the dealer.  It is your hard earned money.

You can do it yourself, just call LTA and informed that you ahve just scrapped your car and the remaining road tax will be refunded to you. I did it before for my previous ride. Dont need to give it to dealer. The following day can cancelled liao. Same also applies to the insurance.
