First Servicing
« on: December 23, 2008, 11:12:14 PM »
Guys

For the first servicing, is it better to change to synthetic oil?

some of my friend ask me to change to synthetic oil during the first servicing while the others ask me to change at the 3rd servicing.

another issue. for the FC i am getting like 8.5km/L  base on the calculation from the car. i just got my car on last sat and the millage now is around 220km. i am driving from SK to Tuas daily.

Is it because the car is still new and the engine had not kick in? or i had heavy footing?

I kept the RPM at around 1500 to 2000. Did not exceed 2000 when moving off.

What are possible reason for the High FC?

bro i think you see wrongly. on the screen is show as L/100KM. so what you see should be 8.5L/100KM. do some simple math and your FC should be 11.76KM/L. I hope you can sleep better now. haha...

I will advise you to use mineral oil for first servicing as you will need to change again during 2nd servicing at 5000km since mineral oil is foc.

Hi
I thinl you have misread the FC value. It should be litre per 100km (l/100km)
And it is better to change to syn oil after the first 10000km.

Merry xmas and a Happy New Year...

Yep... agree with the contributors here... change to synthetic oil only when you go for 10,000km servicing.

The 8.5 value you see is 8.5l/100km so that works out around 11.8km/l which is quite alright.

My Latio Sports just hit 2000km, still on mineral oil after 1000km servicing. FC averages around 13+km/l or 7.6~7.8l/100km since I collected the car.

I am also quite lead footed at times, especially when accelerating to hit 'top speed' on a highway, away from traffic lights and overtaking. The trick is to avoid braking where possible and drive smoothly when your car is cruising.

Anyway, very happy with the FC of this car, considering that it is still on mineral oil, with Nismo BK and I have upsized to 16" rims, still much better than my previous Korean ride which has no BK, on 15" rims and 1.4L engine.

Believe most of us pump Ron95 fuel here, I am a Shell user as it always gives me good FC regardless of car I drive. Some others who uses SPC reported good FC too. I am in the opinion that Esso and Mobil sell fuel that is the most diluted. :D

Does Caltex Gold 98RON give better mileage and power than Caltex Silver 95RON (or any 95RON in general)?

i have used 95RON of both Shell & Esso for first 3 months of driving my Latio. No difference for the 2 brands.

Then i switched to Shell 92RON 2 months ago. Again, no difference in FC between 95RON & 92RON. However, for my last 2 tanks my FC has improved from 11km++/litre to 13km++/litre. i believe this is my car running in coz no change in driving pattern - 90% city driving.

for me i choose the petrol station that is nearest to my hse>>> Caltex with OCBC credit card (inhouse 5%  + credit card 5%)

i know Esso is DBS credit card, SPC is POSB.

I believe all credit cards give the the same std 5% additional discount (unless there is some promotions)
Some credit cards gives addition 3% rebates (citibank dividend card & POSB Everyday card) but do take note is that some of the cards have a minimum spending of $300 to 400 per month before u get some the rebates
