Installing 3rd party alarm

Hi all,

Just collected my Latio sport last weekend from TCM. So far it's been a great drive. Not sure if this has been posted b4 but have scrolled thru several pages and did not come across anything on it. We are thinking of installing a 3rd party alarm for the car not juz as safety feature of e car but for my fiancee too especially when she collects e car at nite, if there's an alarm, and someone tries to rob/assualt her or sthg, she can juz sound e alarm.

Anyone here can provide any advice on where is a good place to get it done? How does it affect the Intelligent key?

you means car alarm ?  there shd be some in the TLC forum. You can do a search

i installed the one from TMC. the alarm works with the ikey. by pressing on the lock button twice, u activate the panic feature. if u upgrade the horn, it's super loud  :devil2: cheap and :thumbsup: good.

actually, the factory-fitted horns are already loud - not necessary to upgrade to super loud

Aeh.. after one near miss.. i decided to upgrade.. i was behind a 20 foot lorry at my company's carpark exit.. i think the lorry driver cashcard not enough money so he was trying to reverse.. i saw him reversing but behind me got another car so can't get out of the way.. press the horn.. sounded for ~ 5 secs.. he still inching towards me.. kan jiong liao.. lucky the other car faster reverese.. me also engage reveres and floored the peddle.. i went down to confront the bugger.. he was really sorry and he said he really can't hear the horn.. so after that. decided to upgrade during Dec.. now 2 x 114dB.  :devil2:

heng for you that you managed to reverse in time


with super-loud horns, if the alarm goes off in the middle of the night, it will wake up the whole neighbourhood

hope no flying shoes, etc

yeah original alarm from tcm is tapped onto ur horns, so when u lock & unlock  ur car u can hear the horn sound once to lock twice to unlock but if u dun like the horn to sound u can always turn it off and it will function just like the normal ti and ti ti sound. But again if someone tries to break-in the car the alarm will still be able to sound off. Like wat latiorarri mentioned if u change ur horns to louder decibal type, u not only wake up the whole neighbourhood but the entire estate & community. Heez

Bro, the alarm u install is there any central locking when u step on the brake?

I install the alarm but seriously i dun like it to sound when i lock or unlock. prefer ti ti sound. How to configure it back ?

But if configure it bk, when my alarm activate , will it be loud or juz ti ti sound?

not to pour cold water offensively but just giving comment objectively, if u are expecting the car alarm to save your fiancee, don't think its the right tool, most pple will just dismiss an initial car alarm sound off until maybe its been blaring 10mins or more, by then any determined attacker would have done what they needed to do.

If you think having alarm deters theft of belongings in car, then also not right, a bugger will survey your car, wait for the right moment then smash the windows grab and run.

IMO car alarms only deters armature car thieves  

got car alarm or not your side windows smashed, u still have to pay, not covered by insurance.

the only diff is whether your smashed car is making noise...OR NOT

I seldom use the horn but I think I better change my horn to louder one for emergency. Any good model to recommend?

Frankly i find Latio's horns too wimpy so I changed mine to one that is louder.. looking for v loud and fierce ones... any to recommend??

One point to note, some times the current is too much for the fuse to handle. Meaning when you blast your 3rd party horns (perhaps continuously), the fuse will blow. This happens to me and i have to replace the fuse.

And for the car alarm, initially I thought i would need it. Then when I spoke to my SA, he said it is not necessary. Like wat jliow said, the SA discouraged me from installing as it's a waste of money. It is only a deterrent for petty thieves but is useless for those seasoned or thieves working in syndicates

I thought of installing and asking for FOC when ordering my car, but SE told me not necessary as for Latio, with or without the alarm is the same. you need iKey to start your engine. furthermore, after installed the alarm, there will be a reset switch below the driver seat to reset the alarm. don't know true or not.

Yup, i had TCM install n integrate the alarm to my iKey so i can confirm there is a reset switch below the side mirror switch on driver's side.
