Need help with my FC
« on: September 18, 2009, 03:09:22 PM »
Hi guys,

I see that most lations here are experiencing good FC ranging from 13-15km/l

I've tried the following methods:

A/C to 23degrees, sometimes dun switch on.
Light footed, i seldom go past 2000rpm unless on expressway... abt 2200 to 2500 max.
Changed my petrol to CAltex 92.

Apparently i'm still getting a pathetic 11.4km/l.

I've not tried checking pressure of tyre, or do anything to it. Dun dare to.

I am not so sure if changing the petrol to 92 will work....I still pump 95 and I check my tyre pressure regularly at least once a month and it definitely helps...before, I never check my tyre pressure at all and I got below 13km/l no matter how hard I tried...after i check and pump my tyre pressure regularly...it is easy to get 13.5km/l consistently....sometimes i even get it to 14km/l....also, if your car boot is full of stuff, the added weight does makes a different as well....is your car always full passenger capacity? This affects your FC as well...hope this helps... ;D
If you r not part of a solution, don't be part of the problem...

Hi,

You may need Mobil 5000, i tried serveral brands of Petrol (Shell, SPC, Caltex and Mobil 5000 seems to be the best FC for my Latio Sport with 16inch tyres ava about 13km/l.

Running on 92octane petrol while cheap also is makes my Latio less powerful which results in a heavier foot to achieve what i am use to.

There are many factors affecting FC.

Is yr car entirely stock? coz most of the latians here have changed their stock tyres and rims .(Generally Heavier)

Assuming yr ride is on stock , if u pump 92, yr FC will b affected becoz it is 'underpowered'.

Tyre Pressure is actually a critical factor in determining yr FC.

Under-Inflated Tyres  consume alot of fuel.

HAHHA bingo!!  ::)

Actually not so true lah, because the previous time i went for servicing TCM told me that all my tyres are worn out.... and i din want to change because my dad says its still working fine.

So now i dun dare to pump, scared later more pressure the tyres less contact with ground = more chance to skid. (considering that i always drive at 100km/hr at the CTE YCK -> Yishun bend daily in the morning to work)

Whats the advisable pump? Seriously I'm a new new new noob driver, dunno how to check tyre pressure also...

Nakshire,

Just to share with you...

Use a W30 engine oil.

Latio default tire pressure is 230 (front), 210 (back). I pump 245 (front) and 225 (back) when the tire is hot, after driving for some 30km.

I use Caltex 95 with Techron for like few months, i believe the Techron has cleansing effect. Got good mileage, but recently switch to Esso Mobil because more discount.

Do not brake unnecessary, when approaching traffic light, let go accelerator for car to slow car a fair bit and then apply foot brake lightly to bring car to stop. Becareful not to overdo this if not u will be road hogging.

SPORTS mode - i think it consume lots of petrol... refrain from using it unless absolutely necessary.

Try it for a few tanks of caltex and see if it helps !

Sorry but to ask what is a W30 oil?

I'm doing the let go accelerator thing... not an issue over here if i were to emphasize on it...

Budden how to check the tyre pressure?

Juz need to follow the standard pressure... will not skid one... unless the tyre u see are really going botak... tyre pressure has big impact on fc... if u see the thread of tyre cannot make it better change... dangerous on rainy day at YCK bend... haha... your dad say can i think can lah... TCM always warn ppl very early when still can use... believe your own eyes can liao

Lots of reason. short trips, start stop traffic, parking in open air car park. My milage drop by about 5 to 10% after I used the park and ride scheme.

Guys I just went to get my tyres done up.

Initial pressure was stated to be at 135kPa, wtf. I thought my tyres are not stock tyres, during pumping i thought 230kPa was a mistake.

Even the uncle also say (honda civic) "wah, u sure or not, mine only 220, yours is 230?"

then he helped me check, really 230kPa.

Now my steering not so hard liao... the car also feel like its chionging... hahaha

135 is really really .. underinflated.. considering the fact tat we were supposed to be 230 front 210 rear .. if my memory serves me right..

Hi,

Just to share my view.
I am pumping on esso 5000 and i am getting about 12.5 to 14.5 ( max).
Front tyre 240 back 230.
When i pump esso 8000 i am getter lower mileage.
About 11 to 12km/l.

To me if i pump better grade petrol = lower fc.
So i decided to switch to esso 5000.
And i have try this for many tanks.
It proven true to me.
Higher grade petrol = lower fc

i'm not sure about esso, but shell V power vs other shell petrol is also like that. From what i read from other threads, V power will tend to be 'consumed more' because they are used for power....

i'll be doing another FC lookout for my car after this pumping of tyres thing...

Currently with 135kPa tyres i'm able to run at 11km/l, mileage 36000km.
