Helicopter sound "Tung tung tung" from wheels
« on: November 02, 2009, 11:56:29 AM »
Hi all,

i can hear a very faint "tung tung tung" sound when car is moving....i tot was the wheels under inflated but after pumping to 33bar...still can hear the faint sound....

BTW my wheels are Yoko Db DNA which was changed in Jun 09....travelled abt 10,000km and yet to rotate....

Could it be just rotation problem or other problem?

Need advise.....

hhhmmm...possible cos 1 of the wheel seems to be more under-inflated than the other 3....

will try to pin-point that wheel again....

maybe will visit PH this evening.....

The last time I had this problem was also due to a nail in one of the tires. Try going from slow to fast if the thump thump sound starts to get faster and faster then its most likely a nail.

did you run the tyre over a rock? this causes the tyre to be bloated up and causes this tung tung sound everytime it rotates. you'll have to change the tyre to avoid puncture.

Come to think of it, yah I remembered running over a metal piece. The sound seems louder when speed increases.
Going for my 110K km servicing soon at AS likely this Friday. Will check it then.
Txs for all the advices

remember to check and ensure that all the tyres are pressurized before driving off since you want to wait till Friday

it may be a small puncture resulting in a slow leak
you would not want to damage your new tyre by driving when it is slowly going flat
Be safe. Go with the flo.

My own ride had the same symptom after I changed to Yokohama C-Drive.  I went back to YHI and the fellow found the cause - a piece of stone stuck in one of the threads.   ::)

Sure or not? I am a very friendly guy. The nails are those damn long type usually for airgun nailing of wooden crates. But seriously somehow I can still hear the same sound. Dun know is it whether other wheels got nails or not? Need to go AS on Friday for servicing then check.

the tires are already strain that's why you can still hear the sound. unless you dont mind changing new tires or else you just have to stick with it till you change new rubber.

wow lau....u really follow up with my comments......

No nails were found in other 3 tyres......the "tung tung tung" sound also getting softer....could be due to the sticky patch material getting flatten after travelling.....

PS: For the servicing, I used X-Rev oil....the car feels lighter and accelerates more easily....

Eh me too, recently, but its from the steering column, only comes when driving at around 50km/h. Weird.
