Title: iagree strike nail, what should he do?
Post by: iagree on October 02, 2008, 11:13:43 AM
Hi guys,

Tyre 中钉 already!

Just realised it yesterday. I think the tyre kena it for at least 2 to 3 days but I wasn't aware... (even though I feel the tyres got abit of problems when I drive, i tot is no enuf air only so i dun care... Nvm, new experience... noted already after this incident...)

Went to Caltex stn to pump fuel to full tank, realised the FC has dropped to 10.19km/L :(

And, before that, I realised the driving pleasure has reduce, I believe it must be due to the Tyres but I was so lazy to check & pump air... until last night. I pumped to 210 for it.

Today morning, I take a look at it, it is still not flat, so, still can drive to work. Now park at car park, at People's Park, how ah? Where is the nearest place to fix the tyre? Any idea? Another thing to take note is that, i am thinking to change my tyre soon, and my NEXT servicing is set at 30000KM, currently is abt 29000KM, how ah? Do at one go? But i am thinking to chg the tyres at KL coz my in-law know people there heard can be a few $100 cheaper for 4 tyres leh... How ah????

FYI, I just renewed my car insurance & roadtax (half year). Didn't buy from AIG(TCM), bought from the other co., benefits more than AIG & can service car at TCM (if touchwood thing happen), and most imptly the insurance premium is abt $300 cheaper than AIG.

Regards.

FYI.

I have not pull it out yet :(
If i pull it out now, the tyre might be flatted? :(

Just change to spare tyre and you can drive to KL and get your 4 brand new tyres at S$100 cheaper.

You did not get AIG insurance from Tan Chong? Does that mean you had to forgo your $500 insurance discount and pay $500 more for your Latio?

Kanna it before too. Got 2 options:

1. as Clarence has said, go change the 4 tyres
2. If your tyres are still quite new and you don't want to change the tyres yet, can drive to any tyre shop for them to pull out the nail and patch the hole for you. Shouldn't be more than $15 per tyre...

Hi clarence

Good idea, thanks for your suggestion. But, if i still cannot make it, can I call your mobile to ask for help? Can? Please.... What's ur hp#? Pls PM me. Thanks.

Yes, I didn't get AIG from TCM. The new one i bought aso cover S$500 + it allows us to go back to TCM to repair & claim insurance (if the touchwood incident happened).

But, for the tyre paku issue, don't waste the NCD mah? :)

Hi shpesft

Thanks for ur points.

The chg of tyres will not be so fast.

My ride is now 29000KM, tyres still *quite new*? I am not sure how to judge...
< S$15 per tyre? So ex???

Hi Jo Lee

You are right.
My ride 1st insured on 04/10/2007.
Now 04/10/2008 is my 1year renewal.

My agent aso recommend me to use back AIG-TCM as my ride is still within 3yrs old. But, AIG charge me S$15xx.xx.... So ex?

The save of the premium of abt S$300+ can let me use it for the Roadtax, so, i don't go for AIG. Go for Liberty instead as the benefits / coverage are abt the same & Liberty insurance allow us to go back to TCM for servicing also... (to back to TCM for servicing, Liberty aso charge slightly higher premium...)

Well, one thing that Liberty ppl ask, WHY MUST go back to service @ TCM? TCM aso may outsource to other company to do repairing works aso if they are too busy. You get me? The car will be tow to TCM but TCM ask other co. to service.

Regards.

Depends on whether its a expensive shop (i.e. StamXXXX) or the neighbourhood shop. They may have to remove your rim to patch the hole depending on how deep the nail has gone.

IAgree. Better spend $15 to patch the hole 1st. Then if u decide to change tyre in KL, that's another matter liao.

think better dont play. Not worth it just to save $15 and have the risk like damage rim, or loss of control of car..

fix asap. personally think its like penny wise pound foolish =)

I had the same experience as you some time back but since changing ride then, didn't wanna change the tyres... Got to a shop at Defu area, they patched the tyre from inside the tyre, i.e. remove the rim, patch from inside and outside: cost $12. I've heard of friends who kanna chopped to get it done at $15-20... I guess the cost also depends on the difficulty of the patch lor

Hi gui ge

I disagree.
Is no choice lah, coz no time lah. U know, rush hour now lah.

Anyway, went to Htyre (Htyre.com.sg) at Bendemeer road during lunch time.
The screw spoil the tyre and cannot mend, bcoz it is kena at the 'side' of the tyre.
So, I have changed to GR80, all the 4 pcs at S$110 per piece. Total S$440 + 7% GST = S$470.80 :(

Huh :( Tyre = Tire man....

Hi iwilly & all,

I don't think i am going to KL in short period of time, no time...

But, if i simply change to GR80 in any of msia workshop, shld be cheaper than SGD110 per piece?
S$110 x 4 = S$440 + 7% = 470.80

S$470.8 x RM2.40 = RM1130/=

= RM282 per tyre? :(

Kaulat...

But nvm, really short of time... :( Don't know how to think of this. I tot can mend it but who know cannot mend.... Then on the spot, i oni think of changing all the 4 pcs :(

Hi Indignant

iagree with u.

well, actually, i dont want to bother abt all these thing, as long as can get it solve and have a peace of mind for the people sit inside my ride, i am contented already. aso, tyres, we wont chg very often. one set of tyres can last for at least 40000km, now my km already hit 30000km, i thk is enough for the stock TOYO tyres? what do u say/think?

But, i would like to appreciate the points/ideas contributed by u guys in this thread, it's very fruitful.

i am rushing back to Msia tonite, so, i thk that is part of the reason i want to get things done without much hassles.

BUT, if so soi hor, if drive through the same area near Lao Pa Sat / Cecil Street area, and kena another screw (TOUCH WOOD), then hor, i will be crying.... :( Then, I might use the spare tyres??? Haha, hopefully this won't happen hor :)

Regards.

So you passed your remaining 3 good tyres to the tyre shop?

It's only 12 mth old, should have lots of thread left. The tyre shop will probably sell them as 2nd hand tyres for $25 each.

Hi all

After changing to GR-80 (all the 4 biji):

1) Better driving pleasure
2) FC improve a little bit
3) Feel the ride is 'taller' abit? Why?

But the CVT pick up is still the same, so weak at pick-up. This is the sideback of CVT, cannot cheong when start to accelerate.... We may kena bully sometimes if there are some impatience drivers drive behind us.

Hi iagree, are u just go to JB via 2nd link to top up petrol? Or u r meeting someone "special there"..not advisable to use 2nd link during night hour (have reported so many cases of robberies, but so far only involved motocyclists)..By the way, to answer u on the 205/65/R15 question, sb something like the width/height/inch (Any expert there, do correct me if i'm wrong)...

**mine, @ 47,000 km now and the tyre still OK lei (stock tyre, > 3 yrs now). My cousin at Jasin (near Melacca), the tyre shop owner, advise me to change 2 tyres 1st b4 next yr chinese new year and most probably another 2 still can last for 1/2 yr longer thereafter.. :yehyeh: :yehyeh: :yehyeh:

Hi! If you are worried and you happen to pass by any workshops or petrol stations with workshops, just pop in and get them to change it. Very cheap. i changed b4 and it only cost me a few dollars... i think it was $5?
Title: Re: iagree strike nail, what should he do?

iagree,
go for your servicing lah, dun need to wait till 29999.99km then drive in the workshop. It is just an estimation. If you have frequent short stop and go + lots of idling (and other so called severe driving condition) you can do servicing anytime between 6k-10k interval. when you service your car, you can reset one of your trip meter to zero and that meter will tell you when is your next servicing due.

Yah, after I change to GR80 my FC also drop. I think it is due to better grip so I feel much safer. That time also right before my servicing, FC improve after EO change. The light bulb is included in your servicing, workshop should change them for you without extra cost.

LatioR,
Do you go Jasin often? Your cousin own which tire shop?

sorry.. am not 任盈盈.

yes you buy more EO for the 10k duration of drive if you change EO early. Look at it like shower, your mom tell you to take shower once a day in the morning. but if you damn smelly (EO dirty) in the evening, will you pay more water bill to make you cleaner? Same logic, ~40% cost of EO vs cleaner and smoother engin, which one you perfer? no right or wrong.

Mine under TCM service, change mu light bulb during previous service. Next servicing is another 3k to go but I am looking around for simple EO change now.

FC ah.. new tyre is like that, let it "warm up" first then monitor FC again. When people tell you his can can hit 16km/l, it is for his route and driving pattern, pass your car to him and the FC will not differ too much. If your daily route is not mean for you to hit 16km/l then just accept it or change your route. If you still worry about your FC. Take a drive on a very long  HW with not much car during cool temperature at 80km/h non stop, get that MAGIC FC number for your car for once to convinct yourself then you can enjoy your daily drive, be it 10km/l or 9km/l. My best was 16.8km/l (with load), dailly is ~10km/l

Well, iagree with your points. I should have chg this EO much earlier then, do not have to wait till next full 10000 km hor... Hope this reply does not come too late.

Get the workshop to check for you if there are any faults with your car, eg, faulty steering rod, or aircon compressor etc. and you can go back to Tan Chong to get them rectified for free at a later date.

Nitrogen molecules is bigger and denser than natural air, thus it will not easily leak, additional it will aid to protect your rim better due to lesser chance of corrosion coz air has some mixtures of H2O.

J50 is your initial Toyo tyre bah.  :glare:

32 is psi lor. For rear tyre no problem, you can increased to 34psi for the front.  ;)

Hi Jazz

Thanks for your clarification.

I noticed the tyres are like too full, can feel when I drive in NSHW, why ah?
Also can feel this new 4 GR80 tyres can stick to the 'road/floor' one. Why ah? Meaning more secure & zai (稳) ah??? (good for Raining day, wet road & sao Corner?)

Regards.

it is like that for new GR80, you can hear the sticking sound when you drive in MSCP. After a few month not so obvious liao...

should be good at wet road but I did not want to test that on high speed.

when driving north, I pump the tyre depend on loading.
Light = factory standard pressure.
Heavy =  higher a bit.

if you feel car not so stable at your cruising speed, you can reduce your speed or pull over to any petrol station along highway to adjust the tyre pressure. ai zai (稳), safety come first.

btw, just decided that I will go Melaka this weekend, iagree, LatioR lim kopi?

Hi Jazz

Oh, not really. Even in Sg road also can feel abit ...

I think you are right too, drive in NSHW, it become hot & expand.

How does the Nitrogen helps for my GR80 to reduce the "hot & expand" leh?

Hello iagree,
Well, Nitrogen advantage is the molecule is bigger than air, thus reduce the chance of losing air and get rid of having to pump regularly, secondly it has lesser H2O thus reducing the chances of corrosion too. Most gas will expand when hot and it depend on each properties.

no, was a bit rush for any car service, only see from outside the shop. Yeap, you hardly see Japanese tyre in malaysian shop. Some super good deal one may be recycled tyre.

Thai GR80 and Japan GR80 both can be use, with small price difference I prefer the Japs QC and skill.
