Car with mileage under 80K should be using XW-30, mine is way under that so will be looking for Xw-30
-
If you look under the service manual they also spec 5w-30.. I was on Amsoil 5w-30 then wanted to buy for 30K servicing.. out of stock  so bought Mobil 1 5w-30 supposed to be not bad too.. but can feel that the engine is not as smooth. 35K go change engine oil again :bleh:

What abt OWS NA Racing engine oil???

Hi,
Had been a Mobil1 user for 10k and 20k serving but changed to X-Rev during 30k service.
Engine alot smoother and quieter and more vroomz below 3000rpm compared to Mobil1.

Has anyone performed an engine oil analysis? Please share the results. Thanks.
I have tried Redline 0W20, M1 5W30, GC 5W30. FC about the same. Since my revs are usually under 2K rpm, I have no idea what the difference is in the vroom department. GC5W30 was the quietest, but only by a small margin. M1 5W30 appears to do the job at a reasonable cost.

i am the kuku who vote for TCM's oil because its free..

Now using Amsoil 100%, going to change to Redline once reach 5000km.

Err....by default the freebie EO is mineral oil leh, last 5K tia, U can opt to use full syn oil to prolong your free servicing period.
Fasflo oil ah full syn somemore, I tried, 5K plus only engine starts to make noise and sluggish. Shogun a bit better, 7.5K make noise and sluggish.
Any bros here can tell me full sync oil ah, the color by right is what ah? mine when I check when just service is dark brown color when i pull the EO stick, now after 7.5K when I check again, I can see streaks of blackish brown......
Last time while on mineral oil I check it was yellowish or golden cooking oil color.
-
If it retains it's pure golden color, it's not doing it job! ;D
Its normal for EO to turn brown or black after time.
-
All oil suppose to be golden brown color ? I using Amsoil, now only 3000km due to low mileage user, just check my dip stick last week, not much color change.

Yes, recommended to change every 10,000km or 6 mths whichever come first. As I am a low mileage user, my 6 mths is around 5,000km, so I just change lor.

In this instance, mineral oil should suffice should you change your oil every 5,000km at 6 months.
Of course, using synthetic oil is fine although I feel it is a waste of money.
I have always been changing my engine oil only when my mileage hits 9,000km to 10,000km, which is a 10 to 12 months interval for me. But I make it apoint to never exceed the 12th month.
So issues with all my previous cars, the longest one which I kept for 8 years.

I recall reading in a Shell booklet that if your engine oil is still clean even after some mileage, then your engine oil is not doing its job, unless your car is brand new.
The booklet continues to say that dirty engine oil indicates that it is doing its job of cleaning up the engine.
-
can anyone provide me the latest pricing for Amsoil 5w30, so that I can update the poll

Actually i totally agree with you. Afterall, we already spent so much $$$ buying our rides, what is a little extra TLC in looking after our rides by changing our engine oil n oil filters even if ahead of schedule. At least this way, you know your ride can go the distance.

haha, dun think so serious need to skip meals so as to change engine oil more regularly. I agree that if we can afford a car then we should be able to pamper it. I may not change engine oil as regularly as you but I definitely pamper it in other ways such as modding it, others may say I am wasting $ but hey, its my $.
Back to the topic, I voted amsoil but definitely keen to try out other EO(except fastflo) if there is any good FR on them.

any guys tried redline 5w30? izzit better than amsoil...

I mean skip those dining at posh restaurants. :D I have no choice coz I a low mileage user, so I follow time instead of mileage anyway heard alot of feedback that some EO will cause engine to be noisy or rough at 7K or 8K mileage, so me changing at 5K is not actually a bad thing. Currently using Amsoil so already bought Redline so may change it by end of this month. The next one may be tempted to try Motul 300V EO.

10k- Ams S2k - Avage FC 14.5 , lesponsive
20k- Ams S2k - Avage FC 15.5 , lesponse drop bit but FC impov (AutoS ECU tune)
30k- Ams S2k - Avage FC 15 , lesponse drop , no ECU tune n FC drop.
40k till date - supid fastflo - Avage FC 15+ so far, car super slukish ( think due to supid TCM ECU tuning during FF challenge)
conclu - fastflo vs Ams 2k, Ams 2k will prob win a.e.t (after extra time)
-
I find that Amsoil is very rough after 8k or am I the only one?
Me too.. Engine sounded rough evenwhen stepped at 2k rpm... Now with fast flo, not rough anymore. But FC drop quite a bit.
Suspect they use thicker oil for fast flo.
-

Yup. Now I using 40 series of another brand engine still like pretty smooth after 8k. Suspect is the thinner oil from Amsoil.
-
Think Amsoil has a few series of engine oil, of different performance.

Hi,
5w30 or 10w30 is the same, in our region we are only looking at the second numeral which is wt30, the first numeral is for cold start which is not essential for our climate. Our Latio is said to be 3.3L in engine capacity, so 4Q is required. Yes you can purchase directly from MxTrading but won't get the MO or promotion price.

Anyone been to 20k service, normally they wont use up 4 bottle right? only 3 bottle +
should i just buy another 3 bottle (quarts) will do?
-
the mech told me actuali 3 quartz is sufficient even with oil filter change... And when i checked the dip-stick, the level is half way btw the high & low level
-
Mobil 1 Gold 0W40
So far this is the best man! I hit 310km with only half tank, it use to be 230-240km on the average...
Also for those who want to buy Mobile 5W-50, Carrefour is selling it for $63.90, if you use POSB Everyday card, minus 5% cash rebate.. yeah!
-
I find that Amsoil is very rough after 8k or am I the only one?
Ya, same feeling. I don't have that kind of feeling with castrol 0w40, is it due to W30 or is it due to amsoil?
-
i've been runnin on amsoil for the past 40k i feel that the oil gets dirty bery easily juz after travellin for 1k & fc is gettin bad, initially i could get 600km on a full tank but now its barely 500km and reserve lite lights up... wonder wats the rational behind it?

Not cheap though, $105 from Esso Mobile Petrol Kiosk itself.. :(
So far I hit 580km... using the same petrol I have been using all along, SPC 95... it all depends on the road conditions, my foot work ba.. not jus the engine oil honestly...
-
Instead of saying you can reach 600km or 580km on 1 tank, can you change it to km/litre?
Some people don't travel so far, because they stop filling once the pump autostops.
Some people fill up to the brim till they see petrol going to overflow, so that tank can travel further...
-
I have lots of short distance cold start for daily driving, will try 0W30 or 0W40 next servicing. 0W is thinner than 5W during cold start, hope my FC can improve.

ya and u shd see some ppl fillin up to the brim & jerkin on their car to allow the petrol to sink down again b4 fillin it to the brim again *process repeated again & again for at least 15mins* wahahahaa
Ok normally i will top-up an average of btw 42-45l of shell 95

How many litres is our fuel tank? I always pump 32L - that's when the fuel light is up.

Hmm, if our tank is 45L, how come mine gets lighted up when its not even near E? Is there a settings or is this a common feature for Latio?
-
Got this oil yesterday. Gonna try it soon and give some review :)

Not really - in Singapore context, whether oil is 0W or 5W is not relevant.
There is likely to be no difference in performance between 0W30 and 5W30.
If you want to improve FC, you should use 0W20 or 5W20.
-
Hmm, if our tank is 45L, how come mine gets lighted up when its not even near E? Is there a settings or is this a common feature for Latio?
sometimes, the sensor is a bit clogged.
what you can do is...
if you are able travel 12km/l , 45L x 12km = 540km
drive to about 500km, then pump.
what it will do is "reset the sensor". =]
-
Me too.. Engine sounded rough evenwhen stepped at 2k rpm... Now with fast flo, not rough anymore. But FC drop quite a bit.
Suspect they use thicker oil for fast flo.
I remember somebody told me the Fastflo oil used at TCM is W50 oil - it's very thick oil.
Look at it this way -
When you run amsoil W20 or W30 oil, engine revs freely, hence it sounds rougher for you.
When you run Fastflo W50 oil, engine doesn't rev as freely due to the thick oil, hence engine sounds smoother for you.
But since Fastflo is a thick oil, your FC drops. Logical?
-
wah w20 can meh? wont it be too thin, i was told that the older ur car gets the thicker the oil shd be used to protect the engine more
-
wah w20 can meh? wont it be too thin, i was told that the older ur car gets the thicker the oil shd be used to protect the engine more
a 168,000km regularly serviced latio can travel on w30, what say you?
-
wah w20 can meh? wont it be too thin, i was told that the older ur car gets the thicker the oil shd be used to protect the engine more
Yeah, older cars have more gap between moving parts due to wear-and-tear and hence, a thicker oil is recommended.
General rule of thumb (follow at your own risk) is to use the lowest viscosity your car can take. If your old car starts ‘eating oil’ even though you are sure there are no leaks, then it is a sign you need to use thicker oil.
I have been using W20 oil for my previous Sunny, followed by the current Latio with no problem. I have also brought my own W20 oil to TCM for servicing and the advisor also did not advise against using the oil. (he did ask me to sign indemnity form though)
If you want to be safe, just follow the owner’s manual recommendation (W30 for Latio, right?)
-
a 168,000km regularly serviced latio can travel on w30, what say you?
We're tokin abt w20 rating, anyway the oldest latio i can find on the road most to most is 4 yrs old which i consider still very new. My term of old car meanin those 1978 Datsun 100A & 120Y which i used to drive in the past my fren...

Wow.. hardly find any 100A or 120Y on the road nowadays.
For such cars, it's better to stick to whatever oil you have been using. Don't disturb the car by suddenly changing to a thin oil. If in doubt, maybe use thick oils like W50 or W60.
The reason why I use W20 now is that I can slowly change to thicker oils as the car age. Maybe when it hits 10 year, I might still be using W30 or W40. ::)
-
short trip, start stop driving pattern can try W20 EO, not if you have many NSHW trip. At higher temerature W20 EO have less than expected protection, your FC may be good but your Engine wear and tear is higher. W30 is the min limit for me, I only use W20 oil to flush Engine.
as for 0W or 5W, it is a bit confusing since we don't drive in winter condition and not all 0W EO have the same spec. IMO best to look for lower "Kinematic Viscosity @ 40°C, cSt" value, lesser time/fuel needed to warm up the EO. Good for driving pattern with many cold start.
Wow, just saw the KIC EO selling at $122, must be good stuff.
-
any bro with oil temp meter can share some info on EO temp after driving >120km/h for 3 hours?

any bro with oil temp meter can share some info on EO temp after driving >120km/h for 3 hours?
depends on how u rev your engines wah, the higher rev the hotter it is :confused1:
-
say constant 130km/h @ ~2000 rpm for 1 hour?
-
say constant 130km/h @ ~2000 rpm for 1 hour?
4AT would be much hotter, I get 2200rpm at 100km/h. CVT can get 2krpm at 130km/h meh?
-
~2000rpm, sometime more when going up slope. It also depend how much stuff/human weight you packed in the car. Latio only show warning light when it gets hot, good enough for most people.
-
Tried Mobil 1 5W-30 and Amsoil 5W-30. Mobil 1 is slightly more fuel economical. Amsoil feels more powerful.

Any lobang for me.

If COE is high, get a 2nd hand.
If CEO is low, consider a brand new car.
For car insurance, hatchback/Sport edition will always be higher than a sedan.
However, do note that Nissan's car insurance premium is lower than Honda, Mitsubishi.

Tried Mobil 1 5W-30 and Amsoil 5W-30. Mobil 1 is slightly more fuel economical. Amsoil feels more powerful.
Hmm..... strange. How can engine oil makes a car more powerful? Engine oil only protects/lubricates the engine parts. It can only make the engine runs smoother but ........ more powerful??
-
When the engine runs smoother, that means it's running more efficient at less power lost, as a result more power will be available at the wheels.
Try to compare performance between full synthetic 30W oil and mineral 50W oil. ;D
-
To me, engine oil is all the same. What is most important is to change them at regular intervals.
I rather spend $29.90 to get Carlube and change them at 5,000 interval, than to spend over $100 for Mobil 1 and change them at 10,000km interval (for fully synthetic).
Fresh oil is always best for car.
-
Buy Amsoil 3 botttles of 1 quart more than enuf for each change, even cheaper and better.
-
Engine oil makes the car run smoother lah. Not more powerful. I've used Amsoil before and engine sounds very rough. Now I'm on KIC and it's ultra smooth and quiet even when rev hard.

Hi bro, agree with you on the amsoil oil, engine sounds rough after about 6K. Thinking of trying the SSO series amsoil if can't find better ones. What is the KIC oil, do they have the 0W30 or 5W30 type ? Can share how much and where to get ?

there is a inclination that would mean Amsoil is a cheap and lousy oil same class as fasflo

I second that..used to use carlube 29.90 last time, feel no difference from Shell Helix or Fastflo so definitely value for money.
Except the remaining 1litre or so always wasted, dunno where to keep, end up throw away :(

To me, engine oil is all the same. What is most important is to change them at regular intervals.
I rather spend $29.90 to get Carlube and change them at 5,000 interval, than to spend over $100 for Mobil 1 and change them at 10,000km interval (for fully synthetic).

you are not wrong to think that way and absolutely make sense if you only drive the for point A to point B in singapore.. but for someone who drive up north frequently and enjoy revving high rpm and high speed, carlube is not a good choice for that group of driver....
so, the bottom line is there is no "better" engine oil in such case because it's relative and depends on driver's style and usage...... as long it meet ones expectation, that particular engine oil is better... but of cause if the discussion is about which engine oil is better in terms of specs on paper, i would say amsoil from the list above but that doesn't mean i will go for it....... :)

wah, dun pour down the drain hor. Last time I buy 2x 5L carlube, just nice for 3 servicing (one servicing only $20 nia where else to find?) sharing among family members.

Why do you need to throw away? You can always keep for the next servicing if you are sticking to the same brand of oil.
Hmm..... strange, by the way. How come nobody mentioned Mobil 1 Gold 0W40? Me been using this for the past 70k

Engine also can be kept for lubricating house hold stuff, just like your bottle of Singer Oil. I used it to oil a 2nd hand bicycle I've bought from ebay.

if enugh people interested in redline EO i can organise a MO with good pricing for everybody. think min ard 15-20 buyers at least.

Juz drained off the amsoil & poured in FK Massimo Ow20 into my tranny, felt dat the whole car was very light & responsive. Will monitor the change in fc as mentioned by the mech dat this ratin will hv better fc as compared to 5w30

If I'm not wrong, RR and Lorddraco are also running (or at least used to run) on Mobil1 Gold 0W40. Esso/Mobil station now seeling at $105, the last time I saw Autobacs selling at around $120 (quite long ago though). Can get for $80+ at a shop near Serangoon. I always get from there and then go to AS Defu for servicing.
