Thanks for the info
Anyone interested? :cool2:

Very interested... but unlikely to be able to find time. But for those who can make it, it's going to be really fun. Plus maybe Tan Chong is going to program the ECM for maximum fuel economy for you :-). All for free...
-
Whats the minimum speed you have to drive? Else I'll be chugging along at 60km/h heheh.
-
Take a look at the schedule...
Flag-off at 7am, lunch at 11am. 4 hours, 250km... works out to 62.5km/hr. Doing 70km/hr on our speedo should work out great. Maybe about 23~25km/L with windows up and no A/C? Those with FL versions may get a little more? I wonder if 4AT will out perform a CVT under these conditions?
-
Why would FL be getting more fuel economy? :confused1: Better ECU/TCU tuning?
Also, i thought CVT is more fuel efficient then 4AT, cruising rpm of CVT is lower isn't it? 100km/h on 4AT is 2.5k rpm, while its just 2k rpm on CVT.
-
i interested to join... but hor ...my FC is not gd, in spore i have never hit 500km in one tank before ... then how huh?
only top up once before set off? :confused1: ...
they mention after the first top up, they will seal the fuel tank and only unseal after the challenge.
so low FC car cannot join? :confused1:
-
Well, you can try!
I dunno whats the standard in Singapore, but liewks' 20+ km/l is probably a very high standard.
-
I think FL has extended late closure for intake valves. This will improve low load fuel economy. But I can't be sure.
As you say, it looks like low load, low speed cruising should favour CVT. But again, it's difficult to find any published efficiency numbers for the two drive trains.
It would be interesting if they allowed other folks to attend the pre-event briefing just to pick up tips for driving efficiently. The best people to learn it from are Nissan. They know how the engines and transmissions are set up and where the sweet spots are.

FC Challenge...
i got this email from Tan Chong too...
tempted to join...but as others...time constraint for me too.
i have never been able to hit 15km/l...mu best is about 14km+...
maybe can take out the spare tyre...no aircon....lose more weight...heheheh..
it says in the email...thos who join...will get free oil & filter servicing...
for $50 registration fee....not a bad deal!
-
it is free with $5,000 in prizes
the $50 is a refundable deposit to ensure that those who signed up actually participate
sounds interesting
tempted to go - can be company to whoever is interested to drive
(weight is 78 kg)

Can we do any modification on our car for fuel efficiency ?
Everyone the winner!
-
So how do they measure the FC ?
-
So how do they measure the FC ?
Probably by how much petrol they give you/ how much you use.

Yep, that why this puzzle me, since the distance is so called fixed, to and fro around 500km as stated, let say they provide us to pump to the full tank since we need to abide the 3/4 tank regulation also. So after end of the journey, how do they or use any equipment to measure the quantity of our fuel left to determine the winner, we know we can estimate from our fuel gauge but not accurate in term of how many litres left in our tank.

This challenge is to see how far you can go with 1 tank of fuel. No need to worry on that 3/4 tank regulation...cos you vehicle petrol tank will be refueling and sealed at Gelang Patah on 6am.
I think TCM assume Latio is able to go at least 500km++ with full tank. Besides, you will be driving at highway (mostly). Can have chance to see how good is your latio fuel consumption. Too bad I am not qualified to the challenge. Hope who participant can enjoy.

Cannot because I wanted to be the passenger
Mine also not qualified, only 13+ km/l, so thought of joining the fun with "qualified" Lations ..........

Oh I see, so this challenge to see 1 tank can cover the distance.

23rd May, I got reservist on that day. =(
I'm not a Nissan Advantage member anyway, so cannot join. :(

according to the info :
refueling (probably means top up fuel to full tank)
seal petrol tank
drive to PD- lunch - back to GP
unseal petrol tank
refuel petrol tank
so I suppose that the organizer will then take the distance travelled (probably at start of the trip, they will take note of the odometer reading and maybe set trip meter to zero?) and divide by the amount required to refuel to full tank level

Thats what I do to monitor my monthly tanks also!
Actually, if you go NSH and drive at 70, I bet everyone can get at least 16-18km/h. I mean, its just non-stop highway. Most of the people getting good FC here mainly refine their city driving techniques to get good FC. With 100% Highway, the results should be pretty close.
-
me too for every tankful (except no sealing and unsealing of course)
getting 13+ km/l Singapore roads/expressways
if going at 70 kph with no air-con almost fully highway I would think that the winner will be achieving something like 23 km/l
I did a trip to Damai Laut some years back with a Sunny manual-drive, headlights (safer for other motorists to see you) and air-con on all the way and travelling at 110 kph on highway and then through country roads to get to destination and got 16+ km/l

I think possible. The challange path is mostly on highway.
Just remember the rules of fuel saving
1) Don't heavy foot. (Keep between 1000RPM to 2000RPM at ALL time.)
2) Plan your journey. Don't press the brake or stop too often. Best if you can keep the speed between 80km/h to 90km/h.
3) Put aircon temperature at 26 degrees or turn it off if you think possible.
Whole journey estimate around 500km++. With your fuel consumption of 13km/l...you need around 38.5 litters of fuel. I think our latio got at least 40 litter tanks, isn't it?

Totally agree.
I try before. Drive around 90km/h all the time, use half tank but can drive around 350km++ on NSH.

I get 13~14km/l from KL to Singapore lately after using fasflo over 5000km. If I drive at 80~100km/l can get 16km/l.
Need to service the car first, change to tyre that have less rolling resistance (stock Toyo?), window up, aircond off for 4 hour slow drive on NSHW... dont think I want to do it. IMO, Latio is for comfort, what's the point to prove that it can get 20+km/l but you have to suffer a lot to get it?
-
;D...it is for people who enjoy the fun.

For me, getting better FC everytime is more of a game, fun and addicting. Most of my driving are done w/o AC, and on Singapore expressway, 80-90km/h. I opened the windows a little la, and its not very uncomfortable. I guess its the same reason I sleep at night without AC, I dun feel there's a need to so I dun waste the money.
But of course, if you're like my gf, who can't sleep without AC, den this FC challenge will be a torture to you. For me, I'm used to it already, so this thing should turn out quite fun for me. I get secretly excited when I visit the petrol pump and calculate my FC after each tank! :D

bro u going? where is the place? malaysia or singapore?
I thought of going as "co-driver"
Do you want to drive your car in?
Singapore - Gelang Patah - Port Dickson - Gelang Patah - Singapore - TCM (Bukit Timah) - Prize presentation at Vivo City

oic
let me know whichever way as I would need to schedule
btw, what's ur local FC?
-
I think this challenge 99% of latio can make it one lah.
Dont think Nissan so ******** create such a challenge and end up with latio cannot even complete the journey with one full tank.
So I suggest any bro out there with FC problem and suspect his car is a lemon to join the FC challenge. If you are the only car that cannot complete the challenge then you will have a case to fight.
