Help help on FC
« on: March 01, 2010, 07:50:20 AM »
Helloz...

Just bought a Nissan Latio HB yesterday (2nd hand) and pump my first petrol at SPC 8000. I thought latio was kinda of Fuel Economic but for 1 bar of petrol i only manage to travel ard 70km. I travel on mostly highway today... is the 'brand' of petrol crucial to the FC??

Hi bro.

Hope you're enjoying your new ride. I share your concern as I was pretty much in the same boat as you were when i first bought my 2nd hand sedan but I slowly learnt a couple of things when I did a search on the other threads posted and shared by our learned bros who have, under their belts, a wealth of driving experience:

1. based on the car manual, Ron92 grade fuel is good enough to power the car.

2. the amount of fuel efficiency depends how consciencious you are as a driver in terms of your footing on the accelerator. i believe you will notice some improvement in fc when you go light-footed. i've been driving my latio for about 4-5 months now and i am achieving about 236km on a half tank.

3. practise defensive driving - i believe this helps to cut down the over-revving of your vehicle in many road situations. e.g. avoid the right-most lane if possible, because when you're the first vehicle and stop at the lights, the car behind is prob gonna be chasing you. so, avoid stuff like that. ego is only 5sec on the road.

Hmm. i believe there are other more obvious factors like your load of the car etc, there's a wealth of information in this forum, so just run a search and you should be able to benefit from the wealth of experience from our bros who were kind enough to share them. i wish you well in experimenting your FC!

alright thanks bro...
so far been quite comfy with the ride (2 days) but i think the FC is really the problem for me. I'm hitting almost 80% highway due to work and i hope this ride can fulfil me

Hi bro, dun worry, for the 1st bar, it normally to hit between 70 - 80 km for latio! After the 1/2 tank mark, the fuel needle will move quite slowly! I can actully hit 450-480km untill the Refill Tank Light lights up.

i have been driving my latio sport for coming 5yrs. Have been getting FC of abt 14.5km/l. My travel pattern is 80% HW & 20% urban using mixture Ron95 petrol from Cowtec & Hum.

I think impt is service the car regularly & a light right foot. Usually when move off from traffic light, lorries can win me.

My take is the ECU problem, why ? Because it a resale car and the ECU is already "trained" by the previous owner, so my advise is go back TCM to have the ECU reset and you can "retrain" the ECU to suit your driving pattern and you can see your FC improve.  ;)

so retraining ECU includes resetting it or juz drive and let it recognise my pattern?

There is no need to reset the ECU as fellow forumer 'Jazz' suggested.

It will recognise your driving pattern and habit over time and your fuel economy will be stabilised.

How many rpm you you rev to. Try to rev below 3000rpm for maximum fuel economy. Best at 2500rpm, but pick up will be slow.

There is no need to pump 98RON petrol too. 95RON is sufficient if you can't bear to pump 92RON.

I suggest Esso which gives me the best mileage.

To correct the statement below, i once see the mehcanic using the anlayze system and found that the ECU learning % will drop from 100% to 95% or below.  As susggested by mechanic, as long as it is not more than 98%, the ECU will take longer time to learn the new driving habit.....  My reading was 96% and once he reset it, it become 100% again.

Esso? Hmm... after i switch from Shell to Esso, my consumption drop from 11-12 to 10+  :scared:. now on 4 or 5th tank. will pump till abt 10 tank then see how. if still so jia lat, then will switch back to shell. sianz.....

I don't know if my fuel comsumption is good anot.
I always take half tank and 1/4 tank to guage.

My half tank at least will give me between 250km (worst) to 300km-320km (best).
When left 1/4 tank, I will already travelled 400km (worst) to 500km (best)

i had a talk with one of our TLC laojiao today... Joel.

He said the best is we run all the way until the fuel indicator lights up, and then we go and pump to measure. By right can squeeze 40L. He said his is mostly city driving, can clock 600km on 40L. 15km/l

Maybe can try this method see how the FC works...
