It is so unpredictable.  Nobody expected COE to drop from close to 17K to just 11K over such a short period where just couple of weeks ago, SE keeps asking customers to top-up and say price will keep increasing in the near future.

Looks like the sub prime in the US is affecting us in some way. With the high inflation, high cost of business and high oil prices, think there will be a slow drop of COE prices in the months to come with more Singaporeans going broke just to feed the family.

Think expenses will go up another 10 to 20% by year end for the family man. Your electrical bill is going up and with the heat during this period, it's going to be high.

You are right man!  I do feel the difference in monthly expenses this time round for items like household expenses, children's expenses, not to mention petrol bills and what not.  Seems to be worse than the Financial and SARS crises.

Hi Bro, is yours also a basic model? Bro spiff pays 54.5K for a basic model.  Did you get the 2.5 years NPMP freebies from TCM only or like those bros/sis who got more freebies during the CNY promotion period?

The only thing that is certain in this world is "uncertainty".  Your guess is as good as anyone else's guess.  To top-up or not depends on:

(a)  how much you like the car  (is it the case of die die also must want?)
(b)  your risk appetite
(c)  how urgent you need the car (i.e. are you changing car where you can afford to wait or is this your first purchase?)

With the CNY Ang Pao Package (which includes free insurance, free road tax for 12 months, etc), I think your deal is just as good!  (I understand that the 2.5  years free servicing can get a discount of about $800 if one opts out.  This is less than the CNY package.)
BTW, items (a), (b) and (f) are from TCM, not SE.  If you opt out item (b), think will get $500 rebate.

Think the $500 rebate is from your SE as a "special discount'. Not uncommon to get some discount from SE.  Seems like the norm is $500 discount from the SE unless you ask for alot more freebies then the SE may offer you <$500 special discount.  (When I first shop around for the car, I checked with different SE, one gave more freebies plus $300 special discount and the other one gives $500 rebate plus less freebies.  It is a zero sum game.  Not sure if TCM had built in this $500 special discount thingy to make customers feel good.  Naturally that ppl will feel good if they get fee stuff.  Chinese saying "sheep fur comes from sheep body".  That is, we customers are giving freebies to ourselves.  Haha) The $500 got nothing to do with the bodykit.  If you opt out of the kit, you should get another $500 rebate from TCM (not SE).  This is printed on the flyer.
