TCM NPMP Package
« on: June 17, 2008, 09:51:29 AM »
Is it worth it to sign up for TCM NPMP package of S$1,019? They said the price will be up soon. They said we don't need to change spark plug until 100,000 km and no need to change timing belt at all. They will change (for FOC) brake pads (front: S$114; rear: S$88) and drive beltings & pulley bearing (S$100). Is it worth it? How much to do those outside since major parts no need to change (timing belt & spark plug).

Huh? They sure or not? Timing belt no need to change at all?

The only reason that I would get the NPMP package is becos of the huge parts tht needs to be replaced.
Timing belt itself cost > $400.
Front brake pad abt $80 can get.
Back pad: Seldom change .... my fren 4 yrs car of 70K milege also never change them.
The rest I'm not sure.

The guy said latio use chain type so no need to change the timing belt

latio use timing chain. not like timing belt the chain is more expensive to manufacture but usually last very long. over time the chain get noisy but belt is more silent. if you hear weird rattling noise from the engine it is likely the chain. get it checked.

belt is subject to cracking fraying and eventually it might snap, so belt cars although cheap to make but in the long run the maintenance cost will add up.

100,000 km is abit ...  :scared:

i think just go some workshop change new sparks when you see your FC dropping despite normal driving and regular oil change..

Our Timing chain can lost very long as you can see there is seldon a sudden surge of power in most of our driving and there should be auto adjusters in our engine so it will be very long before you'll be able to hear any noise from our timing chain. I only know that the alternator/aircon belt will need changing by 80K, Brakes pads, think you'll be able to get better graded pads outside.

Generally my opinion is that when u use the services from TC, u r paying definitely more for the assurance, quality and warranty. Other than that, u will choose outside job only to save some money as it is definitely cheaper. So u consider urself, which is your priority or wat u wan.. simple as that.. :)

I hv been on NPMP since day 1 till nw (my mileage is ~ 116K).. happy with it, as no nd to worry at all.

i hv the std 3 free servicing from TCM (1k, 5k, and 10k) so if i want to sign up for the 2-years NPMP package, it will
be after the 10k free servicing ?

Yes,.. but b4 that, on ur final 10K free service, u nd to consider if u wan to use Fully synthetic oil (u nd to pay xtra n the next service will b 20K then), or the normal free mineral oil (then ur next service wil b 15K). Advisable to switch to Fully Syn Oil, then u dont hv to go servicing so often (take up ur time).

The NPMP is based on Fully syn oil, so ur NPMP will cover every 10K (or 6 mths whichever earlier). If u intend to use Fully Syn oil during ur 10K servicing, then u can pay/choose the NPMP when u do ur 20K servicing.

hi all.. for the aircon filters, in case u not aware of,  i am getting a mass order of OEM grade aircon filter for latio at only $18 each.. hopefully to get all ur orders b4 end-june..

is very reasonable price coz i believe TCM is charging at least $60 each, and is exactly the same.

no point letting them earn so much; the aircon filter can easily be changed by mechanic during servicing without extra cost ..

do let me know if u interested.. details in MO section..

Engine oil got life limit even if car just sitting around that's why service interval is 6 months or 10,000km. So for NPMP, the coverage is only for 2 years (4 servicing). Stretch abit maybe 2.5 years for really low mileage.

You can only pay during the servicing to start the NPMP. I tried to renew during my last servicing in May but they say cannot. :(

did my 40K servicing with the NPMP, change some item base on service package C. New air filter but they only took out and clean the air con filter, asked if they can change a new one for me. can....S$75. Since I am nebbie owner so I sign up the plan while I learn more about my car. If you add another $99 for the emergency service package, you get a $50 voucher + one session of engine refresh.

I have question about the CVT fluid. my manual stated there are two type of CVT oil. NS-1 (change @ 60k interval) and NS-2 (Change @100k interval). It also stated if using NS-2, should stick to NS-2.  My car came with NS-2 but they say can change to NS-1 at 60k service, what do you think? btw, CVT oil is included in my package.

Bought my aircon filter from JoyRob, fiddled & learnt to change it by myself....quite easy to do it...

btw my prev aircon filter used for abt 1.5yrs, rather dirty! Don't know if TCM actually cleans my filter during last servicing... :crying:

Is it worth it to sign up for TCM NPMP package of S$1,019? They said the price will be up soon. They said we don't need to change spark plug until 100,000 km and no need to change timing belt at all. They will change (for FOC) brake pads (front: S$114; rear: S$88) and drive beltings & pulley bearing (S$100). Is it worth it? How much to do those outside since major parts no need to change (timing belt & spark plug).

I signed up my NPMP package during my 3rd free servicing, i.e. start from 20k km...personally feel that the package covers the warranty especially for the 1st three years...so signed the package...but might switch to outside merchanic after 60k km since warranty over... :cool2:
