I have a friend who regularly gets 17+km/L on his 5MT Sunny as well.

My Latio's lifetime FC is breaking 18+km/L. CVT. Best ever tank was 22km/L. Route and driver dependent.

I think your friend's Sunny and your Latio are the one and only in the entire Nissan factory that achieves such remarkable record breaking fuel efficiency.

Puts Honda Jazz and other hybrid and CNG cars to great shame.

The Jazz CVT is really incredible. Driving it over the same route with the same techniques, it will get over 24km/L easily...

Can you elaborate on what techniques were used to achieve 24km/l?

1. Take life easy. Don't rush. Rushing builds hypertension and we may end up at the hospital earlier.
2. Switch off the aircon, enjoy the fresh morning air...
3. Drive lots of expressway. Build up a few car lengths of buffer.
4. If it's a short trip, use the built in "kah" or bicycle.
5. Drive like car has no power. Brake like car has lousy brakes.
6. If car behind is impatient and flashes light at you, just pretend you have no money to service the car/buy petrol/etc and wave back with a smile...
7. Tyre pressure should be at least up to what is marked on door post or higher.

It helps if you find it fun to try setting a record tank every time you go to the pump.

Waiting for Nissan to build a Hybrid Latio... or maybe Latio 1.4L turbo diesel with 6-MT... hmm...

This kind of "slow" driving habit will cause traffic congestion as less cars ar able to pass every traffic light green wave and result in more ERP gantries being built.   :bleh:    :D   ;D

Then you can set the air con termostat temperature higher so that the air con compressor does not have to work so hard and hence consumes less fuel.  ;)
