But still Thai assembled and local Thai sourced content has been increased by 10% to 93%!

Why pay Japanese prices for a Thai assembled car?   ::)

It another alternative for those like the H badge but unable or not willing to pay premiums for the Civic. It should be a Vios and Latio killer if they priced around $60K.

New Vios J auto is priced at $49,988 now. Facelifted Latio is priced at $52,000 now.

In comparison, $60,000 is overpriced for new Honda City.

2K diff between a Thai and a Jap made...isn't the choice seems clear?

Yep, H badge is always overpriced but why still so popular ? Branding. Why some people choose Levi over Giodano jeans, same explanation.

Vios or City is not Thai made, engines is till from Sushi, is just Tomyum assembled.

Despite the bad service at Tan Chong Motors, I must say Latio is still good value for money at $52,000.

Another in the same league worth considering is the Suzuki SX4. Same price as Latio.

The general feedback from my friends and colleagues who currently, or previously have owned Thai assembled cars like Altis, Vios, City is that the QC & materials used are not as good as true blue 100% Japanese assembled ones.

Thai assembled cars' OMV are also lower, resulting in lower scrap value.

I just found out the exact price for the Thai assembled 2009 Honda City 1.5 auto (basic model) - a WHOPPING $61,500!!!, or $9,500 more expensive than the Japan assembled latest facelift Latio 1.5 auto.

"New" Corolla Altis (carried over engine - same engine as 2000 model Corolla) was selling for a whopping $69,988 in April 2008 !!!  :zipped:

Now just 5 months later, with COE prices still the same, prices have dropped by $10,000 to $59,988.

Congrats to those who bought during the launch. They helped Borneo Motors subsidise the hundreds of thousands of dollars spent in its numerous TV and newspaper ads.  :bleh:

i-VTEC is good only for high rev and hard driving, when the valves are activated and open up to induce more air into the engine.

For normal driving, it is not of much use to pay such a high premium.
