Car's normal RPM during startup

Hello Guys,

I'm a first time car owner, need some help on some RPM thingy.

During a cold engine startup, my car's RPM ramped up to about 1500rpm and stayed there until i shifted the gear from P to D.

I was waiting for the blue cold light to go off before my drive.

Is this normal? Just collected my car btw.

Thanks in advance.

It's normal. Mine rev to around 1600. Not necessary to wait for the blue light to go off before driving off.

Normally I will wait for around 20 secs before drive off. By then the RPM should drop to around 1200 - 1400 RPM. This 20 secs allows the engine oil to "circulate". When the blue light is on, I will drive like a tortoise. Haha =)
