Yes, my Latio has exactly the same symptoms as yours.

I wonder if this is normal or if there's gas leakage?

its just the compressor going on and air con gas released to make it cold.

eh, i thought you expert in engine oil and audio? never go read up on air con ?

Hv exp b4 in my previous 16.5 yrs Corolla car whereby hs changed almost the whole air-con system (of course not all at the same time lah), 1st. the air con compressor -> replaced in JB but 2nd hand part from Sg (cost me ard RM$800), 2ndly, changed all the piping due to some leakage (cost me another RM$300), 3rd, changed the fan coil unit (original in Malaysia, Tangkak, near Malacca) due to small leak at RM$350 (thanks to the boss of the workshop as he is very Kind and not simply over charge me with my Sg plate). By the way, noticed many friends of mine (local), do not bother to check if the air con is in good conditional, they just simply leave it to SA during service (also not sure if the air-con been checked during service). It's advisble to get the air con check at least one a yr.

Hi,

for me, the air con can't really generate cool air during idling (eg waiting at traffic light). Understand that it's a symptom of
not enough gas which eventually will damaged yr compressor. Must send for check up and not to wait for any longer (or should stop using air con untill everything been rectified).

Difficult to endure if stop using air-con inside the car.

Difficult to endure if stop using air-con inside the car.

Worst case scenario, you can turn it to high speed fan mode and adjust circulation air flow to allow to flow into cabin from outside.

This helps to disperse the built up heat on the cabin when waiting at traffic lights.

But once you drive, the air will flow in from the opened windows.

yup, but dun do this if there is a rubbish truck in front of your car.  :bleh:

My Latio air con system emits a hissing sounds when I turn it on.

Could there be a possible leakage?

mine also loud hissing sound when first on but the sound comes from outside the compartment from the engine compartment but sound dies off after a couple of second...what i mean hissing sound if there is a gas leakage is from the condenser unit inside the driver compartment...this is normally on switching the a/c on..the hissing sound is due to the leakage gas rushing out against the metal fins in the condenser unit and also normally follow by a foul smell...

one other thing, I was told by those guys from car workshop that one of the causes of air con leakage is due to blockage of the drainage and this is actually cause by those car purifier...as the air con absorbs in the air and recycle...over time the purifiers particles will build up in the drainage system resulting in a choke drainage...

If ur car is cold after topping up gas but few days later not cold again.
I afraid you might have the same problem as me.

They found the AIR CON COOLING COIL ASSY to be faulty.

So far, I have changed the air-con cooling coil, the AIR COND COMPRESSOR,
- AIR COND CONDENSER ASSY and RENEW COMPRESSOR ASSY.

But still i got this problem.
