IU suspected faulty where to check ?
« on: January 21, 2009, 05:42:12 PM »
Hi guys, need your help in this

in order for the IU to be communicating with the cashcard, does it mean the yellow light in front has to lit up all the time ?

if it doesn't, does it mean that when you pass the gantry. the amount will not get deducted?

mine sometimes the yellow light does not come on and i have to take out and put back in a few times before it will work

does it mean my IU is faulty?

if yes, where can i go for inspection ?

clueless on this  :confused1:

before you go have your IU inspected, try with other cashcard first. if all fails, then go any vehicle inspection centre eg vicom.

You can walk in but without LTA letter, you got to pay for the check. This is what LTA hotline told me when there was no deduction when I passed a gantry previously.

When you insert a cashcard into a IU, it should lit up for seconds to indicate reaminng value. If cashcard remain < $5, it will remain litup.

If cashcard never, or intermittently, lit up to indicate price, either cashcard spoils or IU spoils. Try using a proven working cashcard to confirm.

If confirm IU spoil, can go to any inspection centers in Sin Ming road to check FOC. No need to book appt and no need any letter. I went to VICOM twice. The 2nd time I went, the technician confirmed cashcard spoilt. But before that I already ganna thrice passing through ERP gantry without any beeps or deduction within a week. The technician filled up a form to indicate I have a faulty cashcard and advised me to go LTA nearby to appeal. The appeal took only 5minutes where the lady accepted my fault report and checked through the system to confirm got 3 recent summons against me. She kindly waived all penalty and the ERP charges. So I saved $30 plus the ERP charges, haha.

Waiver of ERP charges, in such cases, is more out of  a goodwill basis, considering that motorists are not compensated for the time and effort to send their cars to the inspection ctr to have the IU checked.

It's a potential loophole if you want to go the trouble of finding a intermittent cashcard and go through the inspection and appeal process. But all this effort and time wasted for just saving of $8 + ERP charge is not worth it lah. Petrol would have cost you a few bucks if you live far away, and whole process take about 1 hour if lucky.

Maybe got more summons than worth it lah, haha.
