RPM Vs The Best FC
« on: February 11, 2009, 11:34:16 PM »
Hi all, like to start new topic on RPM Vs The Best FC, to start with, this is my observation so far,

1. The Best FC achieved on NSHW is at 1.8 ~ 2.2k RPM with the speed ard 80+ ~ 110+km/h, the FC is abt 19km/l.

**Not sure about other RPM Vs FC and that's why need advise from all here (especially to share yr experience for local
driving). Thanks.

So far my best consumption is 13km/l based on 70/30 highway/city driving. My highway driving does not ecxceed 90km/h.

I think the Champion here is a particular forumer "fri13th" who claimed to achieve 18km/l based on a mixture of city and highway driving on local road. I don't know how he managed to achieve that.

Think I have to make my pedal harder, not so easy to stay at 2krpm on highway. Yes, I think 2krpm is the sweet spot.

3 krpm : 120~130kmh
4 krpm : 140~150kmh
too high rpm is bad for FC. Last trip 90% hw 10% city, above 3krpm on highway gets 12.6kml.

low rpm also bad for FC. For daily short start stop, almost 100% below 2krpm, I get 86km at 1/4 mark.

Hmm.....so i shouldn't complain when I am getting 12.5km/l based on the same highway/city driving as you...previously there was another topic abt FC and out of curiosity, for a few weeks, I try not to accelerate beyond 2500rpm and max speed of 90km/h....I actually managed to push the FC to 14km/l......but after tat few weeks....I gave it up...too impatient to continue it....haha.... :yehyeh:

If I pumped Caltex Gold, I can managed to achieved slightly above 12km/l based on 80 to 90% city driving, but if I used Caltex Silver, then will be less than 12km/l.

I drive to batu pahat once a month (2pax) , using NSH exit Ayer Hitam(town route) - Distance - 142km - NSH at speed of 140km/h RPM always 3k+ , Town route at speed of 100km/h RPM 2k. Using 95  esso  , current mileage 32k, 205/50/R16 set up.
FC over 3 trips average 15km/l. (Count in the Custom Jams every trip at least 30mins)

Usual SG roads 70%hw i get 15.5 with speed 100 and RPM 2.2

Best FC i ever get locally was only 17.4km/l here with 380km at half tank mark same driving style. No Mods.

Driven a FD to Batu Pahat before. FC was able to get 14.5km/l too...not too shsabby consider Civic was a class above Latio...

sylphy 1.5 weight is heavier than Latio. SO fc could be higher

Hi Ying, yr last trip at 90% hw shd be referring to trip to m'sia right? If yes, the FC at 12.6km/l shd considered very low liao. Btw, my last trip to m'sia last wkends is at 16+km/l with the rpm 2 to 2.5krpm and really found that if i can "maintain" the pedal position (=> not change in fuel injection), eg. the rpm still at around 1.8 to 2.2krpm, depending on going up the slope or down, strongly believed can hit 18km/l without any issue.

**Of cos, with this method, the fun of driving will be gone :crycry: Best FC or Fun driving, => it's yr decision  :bleh:

Hi sister, for most of the lations here, 14+km/l really considered Good liao  What's the average rpm (with the max at 2.5krpm, and how abt the lowest rpm) as understand that at low rpm will be Bad for FC (for me, not very sure, eg on local HS, travel at 60km/h really will not do any good in FC, in fact, it's worse)

Bro i second that of driving too slow is bad for FC....for me i feel the optimum speed range is 80-100km/hr on ur highest gear ratio  attach is what i am getting in sg for my half tank :bleh:

Thanks fri13th for yr confirmation. My worst experince is to hit 1/4 mark at 60km+ with ~ 1hr jam in Malacca (during CNY) and travel at <70km/h at kampong road to or back from Malacca.

I know why the FC is low, coz I drove much faster than usual. Early am, not much car on the highway.

I drive the 4AT to Malacca 2 years back and got about 12.5km per litre when I was going 120 to 140kmh. FC at higher rev is not very good for our ride. Think it would be best between 2K to 2.5K for crusing.
