tyre recommendation
« on: March 03, 2009, 11:36:43 AM »
My car has reached 60K and today I went servicing at TC.  I was told to change all my 4 tyres as it worn out already.  They quote me the Yokohama ES501 or BT BR80.  I think I was quoted BR80 for 105 + GST per tyre.  I would like to know is there any good recommendation or lobang.  I really tired of the Toyo tyre.

hankook is good.....value for money.

To be fair, to use the stock J50 upto 60k km is possible, my tyres are also left with much thread after 35k km.
Just my backside itchy and go and change them...  :yehyeh:

my stock tyres at 61k+ km now which 2 of them already changed in M'sia (b4 CNY 09), 2 more to go (maybe end of this month or next month). Changed at my cousin in law workshop, cost RM$200/unit (Good Year, Eagle) and understand that my old tyres still can sell at RM$45 each :bleh:

Could be due to your driving habits and possibly under inflation.

Tyres are the only four contact points from the car to the road so I pay a lot of attention to them.  I would not use the tyres till the threads are fully worn off.  I am trying to keep to the regular schedule of maintaining the tyre pressure and checking for stuck stones, minor punctures,  uneven wear at least once a month and rotation every 10k driven.  Tyre cost is nothing compared to the price of your passengers' and your life, so choose a good set suitable for your driving style.

Sometimes it is good to change to a "normal" mid range tyre and replace it on a more frequent basis of about 2 years +, rather than buying a top end expensive tyre which can cost almost double the price and using it till the legal wear level.

Normally, the top end, expensive tyres will wear out faster than you normal mid range tyres. They usually won't last 2 years on normal driving. That's the reason, I'm on Mid Range Tyre. They are too ex and wears too fast, pocket cannot take it.

Heres my FR after a few days of driving. Initially, I thought the tyres is a bit heavy, then I realise it is because the tyres got good grip(stick well to ground) thus the initial feeling, drove thru the heavy downpour yesterday and its . Not sure is it fair to compare to my stock toyo which already serve me for 45k km but the new hankook sure is quieter.

On a side note, the mechanic  pump 230 for both my front & rear tyres and I must say the extra air(for the rear) did result in better FC for me w/o any extra feeling of discomfort.

For Hankook, I understand can get cheaper in Msia.
