Able to turn off the speedometer light?
« on: March 19, 2009, 11:17:15 PM »
Hi all,

Once the engine is switched on, the speedometer and the aircon display backlight litted automatically, even thought i did not on my headlights or accessories light. It is different from tradditional cars.

I like to check if there is anyway to switch them off? Thanks!

Hi Midnight,

Juz curious, what is the objective of having them switched off?

I think our car is designed that if the backlight is not switched on, you can't really see the details displayed.

I prefer it to be off because sometimes at night while waiting for ppl, i off headlight (and all other accessory lights at the same time), i can listen to music and take a rest, but latio lights are always ON, so a bit glaring...

There won't be any lights if you off the engine. Better for the environment, better for you wallet. At night isn't too hot like afternoon, but if its very hot, can go outside walk walk enjoy night air heheh.  :D

To add on to what SoL suggested, you may want to consider turning the ignition knob clockwise and stop at the first click. In this way the backlight will not be on.

Good point! I forgot about that hehe. But it gets stuffy inside the car after sometime though, so best is stand outside.

Besides, I think some bro here said that leaving engine with AC on while idle is bad for the car and can kenna summon.

Adding onto what SoL has shared, i read somewhere that it is recommended to off the engine if you idle your engine for more than 5 mins.

Haha I off it if I'm stopping more than 10 seconds. 10 sec of idle fuel is all it takes to restart a modern engine anyway.

adding to ts thread. In my old nissan, the speedometer light will only turn on when i switch on head light. So at night, it is quite impossible to forget to switch on headlight as the speedometer area will be totally dark.

But the latio speedometer area will light up no matter what, so i forgot to switch on the headlight a lot of times as not used to it. So it created lots of trouble for me last time. But now got used to it but still hope  that i am able to switch it off if i did not turn on the headlight.

So you off your engine at every red light ?

Sometimes i am just tired after work, so just wanna sit inside aircon and listen music...  :bleh:
If i turn knob clockwise one click, i can turn on the fan right? but it gets stuffy after sometimes..

actually i dunno i miscalculate or what, but for one of the tank of petrol, i leave the engine running with aircon and car stationary for about 2 hours (cumulative of few occasions), my FC did not really suffer much, i clock about the same mileage as per normal - ~15km/l.

Latio is wonderful isn't it?

if i'm not wrong, the meters' lights are connected to a light sensor located at the (dashboard?) of the front passenger side. it is a black circle. tats y i try not to put any decals blocking it.

so when light is low, automatically the panel will light up. i personally think that it is a good feature. as to forgetting to on the lights, i was uncomfortable at first. but after using a few times, i had gotten to it because the logo for lights is so obviously in the middle.

Only for those really long lights I'm familiar with. There are some junctions I travel on a daily routine, so I'm familiar with the timing on those lights, and when they will turn green again.

For those I'm not so sure about, I just leave the gear in N.

Wow, if the speedometer light is really connected to the sensor in front, then all i need to do is to paste something over the sensor to OFF the speedometer light! I dun mind not having the auto light feature. :-)
