car shaft spolit. under warranty by TCM?
« on: August 09, 2009, 12:35:17 AM »
Hi, does anyone encounter "kok kok" sound when full turning of steering wheel during reversing?

ask a few of my frzs to sit in n all said it might be the car shaft spolit.
n the sound will get louder as time go if i dun repair it

Is it under warranty by TCM? my car is only 9 mths old.
heard the replacement costs is very high

n my frz said normally if i inform the techician during servicing, they will just spray oil to remove that sound temporary (which doesnt solve the problem)

Very common. I just changed mine 4mths back, tested no sound but now the sound is back. The mechanics know if you tell them steering coupling. Think they close one eye also can change for u liao.

I heard they just do greasing instead of replacement nowadays thus explains the reoccurence.

Kenny,

No harm if Tan Chong just oils the affected part.

If problem persists, tell them oiling did not help and request for replacement of affected part.

Your car still has over 2 yrs of warranty left so its OK.

thank you all for all your replies.

that's wat my frz told me, normally they will just put oil to remove the sound which does not solve the problem.
he asked mi to insist for a replacement if the problem come back again before the warranty is over, because the cost of changing shaft is few thousands dollar.

my gf also facing the same problem in the pasts. she said the sound will get louder n louder if u ignore.

i did some google search on this n found this msian forum for latio.
1. Knocking sound while turning steering (Nissan would replace coupling, FOC, it's a manufacturing defect)
=> These symptom starting to occur slowly. I getting to know more and more latio's owner having the problem when turning the steering.

=> Solution. They complaint it to TCEAS and they replace the whole steering rod which they ordered from japan/thai. Once replaced, some 100% solve and some still claim got sound - but softer. So far, I have not encounter these problem yet *touch wood*.

Hi, is your car park a open or multi storey carpark ?
cos under the multi storey carpark , you need to turn the steering wheel to move up to next lvl, it may stress your  steering wheel after a period of time
just me opinion only
cheers

mine is open carpark.
there's a few times which i hit the end when i turn the steering too fast. but my frz told mi that it wont be so weak to make it spolit with that few times.

he also told me that normally the technician will just spray oil to remove the sound temporary which doesnt solve the root problem. coz seriously, even if they spray oil but tell u that they had replace a new one...u also dunno, also lan lan coz they prove to u the sound is gone (which is due to the oil).

My ride also "kok kok" when reversing - thanks to TS as this is a good reminder, my 10K servicing is coming up.  Sigh .... brothers and sisters who suffer from the same defect, please highlight the defect on the TCM feedback survey.

I think Tan Chong lost money seling you the Latio.    ;D

Jokes aside, I am genuinely surprised how your problem could keep reoccuring despite replacement of the defective part.

If replacement had taken placed, it would be reflected in the servicing record. If they cheat, they will probably be terminated from employment.

Ok. Seems that those with multi -storey carpark got this problem.  also try not to over steer too often . best to park at first level.  no need to go up too often
cheers

Sad, I started having this sound also recently after 30K. So now try not to turn steering too much. A bit disappointed with Nissan.

1st, SA need to access this "tok tok" sound, if SA cant find the problem, u do the driving and show them the problem.
with prior booking, maybe a ~2hrs job (*still subject to the crowd)
btw, Slphy also faced this problem.
