What is steering coupling? Does it affect safety if spoilt?
« on: November 04, 2008, 06:02:48 PM »
Hi, my young baby was diagnosed with steering coupling problem but I was told that there is no stock and they have to order and redo another day when I sent for 5K servicing?

What is steering coupling? Affect safety?

Thanks all.

I too faced this problem and voice out during my 30k svc but have to wait 2 to 3wk coz no stock. Luckily the stock came in within 5day and i got it changed.

Don't need wait for ur 5k svc juz tell TCM to change asap when stock arrive. They don't keep stock for this and if u wait till ur 5K svc they tell u no stock then u have to wait again.

This seems to be  a common problem with Latio.

I guess many must be having their steering coupling changed, resulting in no stock at Tan Chong.

Just to confirm, the tok tok sound happens all the time? Mine sometime have only...especially when i m slow speed and turning the steering slowly.....does this means tat it is a problem? I tot this is normal as my previous ride, altis, also like tat....

I changed my steering coupling in Jan 08, complainted again in Jun08 becos i can hear the tok tok sound coming back again but its very faint. TC svc guy went with me for test drive. Luckily he also heard it. I told him if  it can only last for 6 months, not fair to me becos my warranty cease in Mar09. He told me that he will change steering shaft this time.
When I collected my car, they returned the piece of abt 1m long steering shaft in my car.

I have not experienced this "tok tok" sound in my Latio steering yet (touch wood), so those who have expereinced it may be in a better position to advise you.

Common problem for latio. I've changed my twice already, 1st time during my 10K and the 2nd time 20K plus. According to the foreman, its because latio has an electric steering and once the sound can be heard, need to change the coupling. Well, i guess every car in the market has flaws including continental cars. No car is perfect. Just live with it and enjoy ur ride as much as u can... ;D

Gulp****   :( :( Mine has this sound since the first day i got my car and i tot it is normal....********...i just went for 5k servicing...maybe get them to check it at next servicing. What will happen if left unchecked? What are the effects and tell-tale signs?

Should not have any safety implications ba, just very annoying to hear sounds from new car!  :nonod:

The law mandate all car manufactures/importer to do a recall if safety is a concern.  Correct?

i tink latio steering coupling is weak in design so after a series of fast turn , high speed turns hor the coupling will ups lorry.example mscp.....so ask u all 1 questions ur tok sound is left or right then tok??i guess hor mostly is right hand side then tok left seldom will kena unless u treat ur latio like sock car lol.due 2 the everyday usage of more sharp right turns hor , n sme maybe like 2 turn fast , so tis coupling will ups damn fast . mine also ups liao but lazy 2 go change ........cause as u c its a long lasting problem.change or no change hor no issue 1, but the sound to some ppl can be damn irritating :) im si bar (dead meat), hear 4 1 yr liao .....

Hm.mm.....didn't pay attention if turn right then tok or turn left then tok.....but i didn't really find it irritating lar......like i said, my previous ride, altis, also like tat...so i used to it liao....
