Rubber for lock/unlock button on doors
« on: February 03, 2009, 10:03:21 AM »
Hi guys

The rubber for lock/unlock button on the driver's door was stolen.

May I check what are the places where I can get another set of the "rubbers" ? How to install them?

Thanks & Rgds

First heard of wheel caps being stolen, then antenna, decals, car logo, even rubber of the wipers. Now rubber for buttons !

What on earth are these cheap skate thieves doing nowadays ? Economy recession ?

Guess can only go back to TCM for replacement.

Interesting, but how do you know it stolen and not "dropped" or taken by children.

Huh .. i tried to press the button and cannot feel the rubber. Look down and find the rubber missing. Haha .. I check the other rubbers and there are still intact.

Just checked with TCM and was advised that the rubber is not sold separately and together with the lock it costs alot. Just wondering any lations here are going to scrap their latio soon? May be can sell me the rubber

Yes .. but worried that it may spoil if water gets in. Was also thinking of saying drop-off but when i examine the other buttons carefully, don't make sense as the rubber seal is tight.

How about sourcing from workshops for those Latio doors damaged in accidents?

I am sure the rubber would still be intact.

For temporary solution to prevent water from seaping through, maybe want to try using blu tack to cover. But then to prevent the blu tack from stucking into the hole, maybe have to press the button from the passenger door.

Why not try other TCM branch to get the rubber piece ?

You can try to use the cling film, those transperant thin film that used for covering up the food to wrap around the handle.  Can easily get the film from supermart.

May be you can email to Nissan Japan and question them why the rubber button came out and why they do not sell just the rubber button alone?  Normally, the manufacturer is more responsive and they might even instruct TCM to change for you free.

Give it a try!

But blue tack will deform after you pressed it.

I believe Vortex suggested blu tac as a temporary solution to prevent water from entering.

Ya this is only to prevent water to get in. So you may have to press the button from the passenger door or boot.

Sometimes I press the button from the boot as I walk towards my car from its back.

You can try using rubber from those strips for door mold. Use pen knife to cut out and shape it into the same shape as the door lock/unlock button.
